Can anyone explain a P/E ratio for me?
Question:I understand that it stands for Price Earnings, but somewhat more detail please? What is better a high ratio or a low ratio.Answers:
P/E is shorthand for the ratio of a company's share price to its per-share profits. For example, a P/E ratio of 10 means that the company have $1 of annual, per-share earnings for every $10 contained by share price. Earnings by definition are after all taxes etc.
A company's P/E ratio is computed by dividing the current flea market price of one share of a company's stock by that company's per-share earnings. A company's per-share income are simply the company's after-tax profit divided by number of outstanding shares. For example, a company that earned $5M later year, with a million shares outstanding, have earnings per share of $5. If that company's stock currently sell for $50/share, it has a P/E of 10. Stated differently, at this price, investors are ready to pay $10 for every $1 of final year's earnings.
P/Es are traditionally computed near trailing earnings (earnings from olden times 12 months, called a trailing P/E) but are sometimes computed near leading profits (earnings projected for the upcoming 12-month period, call a leading P/E). Some analysts will exclude one-time gain or losses from a quarterly earnings report when computing this amount, others will include it. Adding to the confusion is the possibility of a late profits report from a company; computation of a trailing P/E based on incomplete facts is rather tricky. (I'm one polite; it's misleading, but that doesn't stop the brokerage houses from reporting something.) Even worse, some methods use so-called negative yield (i.e., losses) to compute a negative P/E, while other methods describe the P/E of a loss-making company to be zero. The heaps ways to compute a P/E may lead to broad variation surrounded by the reporting of a figure such as the "P/E for the S&P anything." Worst of all, it's usually subsequent to impossible to discover the method used to generate a particular P/E numeral, chart, or report.
Like other indicators, P/E is best viewed over time, looking for a trend. A company beside a steadily increasing P/E is being view by the investment community as becoming more and more speculative. And of course a company's P/E ratio change every day as the stock price fluctuates.
The price/earnings ratio is commonly used as a tool for determining the appeal the market have placed on a common stock. A lot can be said in the region of this little number, but in short, companies expected to grow and own higher income in the adjectives should have a better P/E than companies in decline. For example, if Amgen have a lot of products contained by the pipeline, I wouldn't mind paying a large multiple of its current yield to buy the stock. It will have a big P/E. I am expecting it to grow quickly.
PE is a much better comparison of the helpfulness of a stock than the price. A $10 stock with a PE of 40 is much more "expensive" than a $100 stock beside a PE of 6. You are paying more for the $10 stock's future profits stream. The $10 stock is probably a small company with an exciting product beside few competitors. The $100 stock is probably pretty staid - maybe a buggy lash manufacturer.
It's difficult to read out whether a particular P/E is big or low, but there are various factors you should consider. First, a adjectives rule of thumb for evaluating a company's share price is that a company's P/E ratio should be comparable to that company's growth rate. If the ratio is much higher, consequently the stock price is high compared to history; if much lower, consequently the stock price is low compared to history. Second, it's useful to look at the forward and historical yield growth rate. For example, if a company has be growing at 10% per year over the past five years but have a P/E ratio of 75, then conventional desirability would say that the shares are expensive. Third, it's exalted to consider the P/E ratio for the industry sector. For example, consumer products companies will probably have extraordinarily different P/E ratios than internet service providers. Finally, a stock could own a high trailing-year P/E ratio, but if the income rise, at the end of the year it will own a low P/E after the new yield report is released. Thus a stock with a low P/E ratio can accurately be said to be cheap solitary if the future-earnings P/E is low. If the trailing P/E is low, investors may be running from the stock and driving its price down, which only make the stock look cheap.
PS. Thanks, Robbie. You're a doll.

It's basically the open market capital of the co divided by the profits, in other words the number of years it would hold (assuming contant earnings) to get your money vertebrae. which is best depends. Co's with low numbers are usually low for a honourable reason, e.g. an grease co with few reserves vanished
P/E or "price to earnings" ratio tells you something give or take a few where associates invested in the open market think a company is head, since it is a measure of how much investors are feeling like to pay for shares base on a companies earnings. Very broadly/historically, the "average" company have had a P/E of around 20 to 40. P/E ratio much higher than this tend to be speculative (the flea market believes the company is going to grow forever & dominate the Universe!!), and P/E ratios much below 10 indicate a company is any trading at a real quibble, or everyone thinks they are more or less to go out of business!

Question:Some local governments even stress it illegal. Why are some empire so averse to it?Answers:
In gambling, you are dealing near chance. There is no underlying asset here that have value. There is no Supply and Demand surrounded by this equation. There are no Support and Resistance numbers. You risk the full amount of your bet (investment).
In speculating on an asset, there is other demand, accordingly there will be support for price. Sellers will come surrounded by at Resistance. These are popular trading points to increase your odds of prizewinning. Others trade at Fibonacci retracement levels. There is no such item in the casino.
There are literally hundreds, except thousands of fundamental scenerios that apply to any currency, stock or commodity. Likewise there are literally thousands of methods using Technical Analysis. These things do not apply to prospect and random numbers.
Many traders use the trend to provide them direction, buying on dips in an Uptrend, and selling on rally in a Downtrend. When a trend is broken, the position is reversed. There are no trends surrounded by gambling.
When you place a bet at the casino, it is adjectives or nothing contained by the next few second. When I bet on a currency or index future or stock, I can steal any portion of my profit or loss at any time, or I can let it ride for a month or year or decade. what do you estimate of a adjectives technology - let vote somethign that might amendment our worlds contained by 5 - 15 years...?
Question:If there is a company that works on a adjectives technology..something of less commercial utility as of now but could gain significantly within 7 - 10 years...does it make sense from a long occupancy investment perspective....Answers:
The problem is that the farther out you go, the greater the risk. Well, it isn't actually a problem but you necessitate to understand that risk and return are tied together.
Let me tender you an example...
5+ years ago: People looked at storage on the computer and thought that it might be a good opinion to create a micro disk drive. Something that would work in the computers that kept getting smaller and smaller.
Sounds look a well-mannered idea right? And it be.
Today: Micro drives (1" drives) are available now contained by 4, 6, 8GB capacities. Cool, right? The problem is that flash memory have been increasing contained by density and dropping in price faster than most predicted. It's almost to the point where on earth you can buy the same amount of storage contained by flash...and flash is cheaper! This drove all the profit out of the micro-drive business.
So disruptive technology can enter a market and interrupt what sounded approaching a good long-term plan. In this bag Flash Memory. And if you think it is merely a event of switching horses early adequate... Flash memory is facing a competitive technology as well a few years from in a minute!
Seeing the future is tough!

Imagine 15 years ago people surrounded by the IT industry were dreaming of how hurried they could make microprocessors. They really didn't think of using technology like dual-core that be developed later and own proved to be more effective than a 10GHz processor which is out of reach to build. You get the picture.
I enjoy been told if it is a apposite investment now. It will still be a appropriate investment in a few years. Let things live or die for min. of three years. Ideas come and stir but, future technology especially that will move the world....... What if someone steps over them sooner with something better look at Laser disks how long did they ending before DVD. Not long and deeply of people be out money buying the latest toy and turning around a few months after that reinvesting in the compacted newspaper we still use.....
