Use Scottrade, sharebuilder charges 20 bucks for live trades. Scottrade is 7 bucks for adjectives trades and requires only 500 dollar initial deposit. Just rescue up until you have 500.

Other Answers:
beside Sharebuilder.com, you do not have to take-home pay that 20 dollars cited in the answer above if you trade on Tuesdays with the sole purpose. On that day, you can trade for 4 dollars a trade.

That said, ETrade.com have the best online banking and investing narrative called 'Complete'. It does require a 1000 dollar bread deposit, however.

http://www.sharebuilder.com Those are small amounts of money you are talking nearly. In my opinion, it isn't worthwhile to "invest" within anything unless you have at smallest $1000 or $2000 otherwise your breakeven point is much much greater, and your profit won't be really impressive.

I know you are looking to "invest" but hold a look at "trading" too. With trading you can use leverage to make your money be exposed by 100:1 within some cases. Of course this introduces increased risks. have a look at FX market, CFDs, options or warrant if you are interested. These "derivatives" allow you to buy "partial shares".

what is the best mutual fund company to invest next to?

Answers:
There is no such thing as the best mutual fund company or fund. If in attendance was everyone would be within it. Even the "good" fund companies have "poor" funds.

You must start next to an asset allocation and goals. Understand Asset Allocation !! It's the number one predictor for successful individual investors.

You may want to start beside an S&P500 index fund (low cost) like Vanguard or Fidelity. If you move to manage funds (over time) learn in the order of other no-loads/low expense mutual fund companies. Also check out ETF's.

Decent fund companies include;
Vanguard, Fidelity, Dodge & Cox, Aerial, Artisian, Oakmark and many others. After 35 years of investing I'm 50% contained by stocks & 50% in ETF's for the stock side of my Asset Allocation.

Other Answers:
Oh come on. Do your own research here. Are you seriously going to put your money where on earth some guy off the street tell you is good?

Might as very well invest in those "fast mover" stocks I return with told about surrounded by spam email.
I can advise you.
I would voice the two most popular for do-it-yourself investors would be Vanguard.com and Fidelity.com. I like Vanguard myself; they hold the lowest expenses. This link may relief you.

Borrow $1500. That will breed $5000 you need. If you continue 5 years, the house you want could be twice its current price unless there is a housing bubble waiting to burst where on earth you live.

Talking about borrowing administer a try at www.prosper.com

This is the new p2p lending/borrowing minus the middle men. (Similar to Zopa in U.K.) This works resembling ebay. You list a loan for $X (you can borrow up to $25,0000) at r% or smaller number. The lenders would bid for your loan. As a borrower you are the "seller" and the lenders who bid on your loans are the "buyers." Unlike in ebay near will be multiple lenders giving you partial sums. Prosper takes 1% service payment upfront from you and distribute your monthly payments to the lenders. You personally won't enjoy to deal next to the lenders and you can remain anonymous.

Your chances of getting a better rate on the loan is difficult if you have perfect credit. Propser does the usual credit check when you sign up as a borrower and rates you as AA, A, B, C, D, E, HR(high risk), or NC (no credit).
