I don't just plan CD's, money markets or bonds..which are dismal at the moment. What about rental property or other ways to invest enunciate 20k or more? I am fully invested in the stock flea market and seeking another option.

The main downside to that investment is inflation. 10% sounds great today but it might not nouns all that great tomarrow when inflation is running at 12%. That is what happen in 1979. Looking resembling an almost sure bet for next year.
When you speak "safe" investment, you eliminate several options. If you don't want hill products or treasury bonds, I don't have much direction. Rental properties are risky. Investor's bought rental properties during the real estate boom thinking the rent money would cover loan payments. Many be wrong.
If you give us a better conception of your risk tolerance, you may get some philosophy.

I have to assume you are from the US, because here contained by Australia you can get 7 to 8% nontoxic returns just from first performance an online saver connected to a normal funds account (Rabobank, Suncorp, Commonwealth Bank, Bankwest), and specifically for any amount.
