Answers: Pennies are copper plated zinc. No silver pennies were produced by the US Mint. Yours may be silver plated or have the copper plating removed, leaving the zinc (which is a white metal, which I suppose could be mistaken for silver). A silver plated penny is worth one cent. A coin next to no copper plating is potentially an error that would have to be examined by an expert.
