How much fragment metal could I win from a piano?
I know that grand pianos and small uprights hold different amounts of metal. But I'm curious if there is adequate metal in any piano to be paid it worth scrapping. I know the bass strings are steel, wrapped contained by copper. I think nearby must be some brass parts as well. Many associates want to give away old-fashioned junk pianos. I enjoy moved several pianos in times gone by and have a moving trailor and tools. I'm wondering if I could turn a profit scrap.Answers: I don't think so you could probably sort more refinishing the wood and selling to people who want a piano even if they don't play.
There is not adequate metal weight surrounded by a piano to make it worth the time to fragment it. For scrap metal of any type to enjoy full value it must be "clean". For example, an old-fashioned aluminum bike frame is worth a few dollars if it has be stripped of all the other non-metal components and cable. The value of it go down by 50% if the metal is not "clean". Steel is worth nothing compared to copper and aluminum.
The wood from an antediluvian piano has no solid value unless you a moment ago want to use it for shelving in your garage. It take too much time and effort to refurbish it. Most piano wood is Canadian spruce and we own more spruce trees in the country than anything else!
It is easier to trade name money going around collecting aluminum beer cans that citizens throw out. It's clean metal and if you saturate an average pickup truck box full of bagged up beer can it's worth about $300.
