NEW YORK (Feb. 6) - In the latest example that the U.S. dollar a moment ago ain't what it used to be, some shops in New York City own begun accepting euros and other foreign currency as sum for merchandise.
"We had settled that money is money and we'll take it and of late do the exchange whenever we can with our ridge," Robert Chu, owner of East Village Wines, told Reuters television.
The increasingly undersized U.S. dollar, once considered the king among currencies, has brought side of European tourists to New York with money to burn and looking to embezzle advantage of hugely favorable exchange rates.
"We didn't realize we would give somebody a lift so much in and at hand were that lots people traveling or have euros to bring in. But some days, you'd be surprised at how plentiful euros you get," Chu said.
"Now we own to get identifiable with other currencies and the (British) pound and the Canadian dollars we lift," he said.
While shops in tons U.S. towns on the Canadian border have long official Canadian currency and some stores on the Texas-Mexico border take pesos, the acknowledgment of foreign money in Manhattan be unheard of until recently.
Not far from Chu's downtown wine emporium, Billy Leroy of Billy's Antiques & Props said the colossal numbers of Europeans shopping in the neighborhood get him thinking, "My God, I should take euros contained by at the store."
Answers: If I was going to Canada or Mexico soon, I might adopt some of my wages in that money, if the exchange rate be good.
