Yes, I totally agree and enjoy some insight on this as I am a manufacturer of "Consumer Packaged Goods" (CPG's). There are three things that are foremost considerations:
1) For food manufacturing the company is vested within food safety and making sure that the food is protected and protected for consumption. For example, I've used nitrogen and oxygen packaging (check your pound cake people) and this allows me to enjoy an extended shelf life for the item which manner my customers are more likely to buy it, the merchandise stay fresh longer (leading to repeat business and freedom from claims), and I can do longer production runs and keep more on foot for shipping without have to do frequent changeovers).
