1) Make your idea viable.
Is your "idea" a concrete invention, or an abstract thought? Usually, if you want to sell your invention to companies, you should be capable of prove that it will work. Create sketches/flowcharts and keep them surrounded by a safe place. If it's objects, try to create a prototype.
2) Protect your idea
Once you start marketing your philosophy to companies, be sure that the idea won't draw from "stolen" from you. Try to check if your idea can be patented. Be sure not to go to unofficial websites, as rumour have it that some websites actually "sniff" your thinking.

4) Check, and check again. See if your model is already available/has been created by someone else.
