Another consideration to look at is whether your work is seasonal or cyclical. I work surrounded by the construction industry where work tend to slow up in the winter. I chose net over hourly because it evens my paycheck out over the year. The OT I work in the summer make up for the time I don't work in the winter. When I negotiate my salary, I averaged my hours over the previous couple years (thus factoring within all of the OT I'd made hourly) and base my asking salary on that.
