Millennium Payroll system is worthy, and very user friendly. The tech support be always great, and it worked beside the time clock system. Payroll used to take me three days- after we get this, it took three hours.

quickbooks is a great program and they have regular people on the phone when you phone them for help. I prefer quickbooks over simply accounting - those are the with the sole purpose two i've experienced. good luck
Processing 150 member of staff paychecks in house is rather a big hat to wear. Why wouldn't you outsource to a service? You hold more options than you feel.
OUTSOURCING PROS: The employer liability is shifted to the service, if agreed, they must follow regulations in file and reporting payroll and if agreed to - sometimes paying taxes on the employer's behalf. It is less work and burden on employer
OUTSOURCING CONS: It can be smaller number flexible. The svc. imposes deadline (including 'late submission' fees sometimes) and dictates when your p/r must be turned within or reported in charge to get your checks or direct deposits in good time. If you have an adjustment to someone's clear or gross earnings or deduction, etc.. it has to 'pass through' or be reported to the service. Even if you enjoy to cut an extra check at the last minute, it might not be as trouble-free or convenient as (re-)printing a check at your fingertips.
INHOUSE PROS: It's convenient to have 'control' of how and when your payroll is processed or printed. Easy to check or outlook your own payroll before you in reality cut the check. Depending on how many workers on the payroll, packaged software could be sort of inexpensive.
INHOUSE CONS: The general public does not realize the monstrous burden that employer's take. If your outsourcing:
Small to Medium sized businesses can use any a small local payroll processing company, or one of the big 2 payroll processors, ADP or Paychex, nobody else can compete.
While there will other be a more personal touch with smaller businesses, the larger companies own failsafe disaster recovery plans, and hold a much easier time abating tax penalty for their customers (This is HUGE if there is a mistake somewhere down the smudge and can save thousands of dollars).
Also, ADP take you to a call center, while Paychex give you an assigned account rep, so nearby is that "down-home" feel. Your mileage may oscillate, but I certainly wouldn't want to run on the IRS because my local "Mom and Pop" went lower than halfway through the year.
If you're going to do it surrounded by house, shop around and use free demo's and see what you like best. DO NOT newly buy something because someone else uses it. Everyone has different priorties, and respectively system has it's own touch.
