They're not all snake grease salesmen, for sure. I've seen beneficial services rendered within terms of getting excise breaks, tricky financing, and installing new computer systems to run companies.
Usually the problem I've see is the transfer of wisdom from the consultant to the company. It takes dedication and resources... whether its one character learning something or a company have whole unusual business practices... and if the company hasn't committed to that heavy lifting, there's a correct chance the ambition will fail.
