Have you sold a rights to Intellectual Ventures? How be the experience?

Question:Looking for responses from individual inventors.

Answers:
Intellectual Ventures acquires "giant tech" patents from inventors, companies, and institutions. They are not invention promoters, and wage the patent owner, not vice versa. No infomercials! My dormant dot-com company successfully sold patent to them, in a straightforward business deal, for cash.

IV is apparently putting together a big portfolio, based on communications, computer and electronics patent, but also patents surrounded by other fields. Their business model focuses on license their patents to (not litigating against) roomy companies, but remains flexible enough to launch start-ups, associate patent pools, etc.

Their strengths are their illusion, very bright general public, long-term, well funded business plan, and contact networks. They are scary--not to inventors, but to recalcitrant companies that infringe patent, since IV is substantial enough to transport them all on at once, if important.

From an inventor standpoint, an interaction with them is adjectives upside. You offer your patent (or pending applications) and hurriedly you get an propose. You can walk, or adopt it. No games, and an honest and open process. In any defence, that organization alone is responsible for bringing liquidity to the marketplace for patents, and is, within my opinion, the best at what it does.

PS Don't bother going to IV next to an improved spaghetti strainer--they focus on soaring tech IP used (or which might be used) in products, not "as-seen-on-TV" gadget.

Other Answers:
I don't trust companies like that. They usually lift you nowhere. If you are serious about patenting something, obtain a lawyer.

What are conglomerates?

Question:

Answers:
A merger of businesses in UNRELATED lines.

eg the merger of a property company and a food company

Other Answers:
they r rocks made of sand and pebbles compressed
A conglomerate is a voluminous company that consists of divisions of often seemingly unrelated businesses.

Conglomerates be popular in the 1960s due to a combination of low interest rates and a repeating bear/bull open market, which allowed the conglomerates to buy companies in leveraged buyouts, sometimes at temporarily deflated values. Famous examples of the 1960s conglomerators include Ling-Temco-Vought, ITT, Litton Industries, Textron, Teledyne, and Gulf and Western Industries. As long as the target company have profits greater than the interest on the loans, the overall return on investment (ROI) of the conglomerate appeared to grow.

For many years this be enough to build the company's stock price rise, as companies were repeatedly valued largely on their ROI. The aggressive nature of the conglomerators themselves be enough to manufacture many investors, who saw a "powerful" and seemingly unstoppable force within business, buy their stock. High stock prices allowed them to raise more loans, base on the value of their stock, and thereby buy even more companies. This lead to a chain recoil, which allowed them to grow very fast.

However, all of this growth be somewhat illusory. As soon as interest rates started to rise in instruct to offset inflation, the profits of the conglomerates fell. Investors also notice that the companies inside the conglomerate were growing no faster than they have before they be purchased, whereas the excuse for buying a company was normally that "synergies" would lead to more helpfulness. By the late 1960s they be frowned on by the market, and a principal sell bad of their shares ensued. In charge to keep the companies going, frequent conglomerates were forced to shed the industries they have purchased recently, and by the mid-1970s most have been reduced to shells. The conglomerate rage was subsequently replaced by newer design like focusing on a company's core competency.

Most conglomerates own generally proven unsuccessful. One exception is General Electric, whose huge industrial equipment surplus be turned into a successful rental and leasing business. Cash flush during the 1980s, GE also moved into financing and financial services, which today accounts for half of the company's income. In some ways GE is the in front of of the "typical" 1960s conglomerate: the company was not importantly leveraged, and when interest rates went up they be able to turn this to their ascendancy as it was habitually less expensive to lease from GE than buy exotic equipment using loans.

The best known British conglomerate be Hanson plc. It followed a rather different timescale than the U.S. examples mentioned above, as it be founded in 1964 and cease to be a conglomerate when it split itself into five separate listed companies between 1995 and 1997. It be quite a successful example of a conglomerate.

when will Martha Stewart release the word of their contract next to KB Homes, it's a done settlement?

Question:

She aleady did back surrounded by November:

Martha Stewart, suburban homebuilder
Lifestyle magazines hunt for ways to grow their brands contained by the unlikeliest of places.
November 8, 2005: 9:56 AM EST
By Greg Lindsay, Biz 2.0

NEW YORK (Business 2.0) - Magazine publishers could sure use a few extra bucks. Advertising is down, newsstand sales are surrounded by free-fall, and the cost of paper and printing is skyrocketing. But go off it to Martha Stewart. Who else would take a magazine into a authentic estate venture to spur profits?
Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia lately announced a deal next to $7 billion homebuilding giant KB Homes, one of the nation's largest developers of residential real estate, to create a dash of Martha-branded houses. The first project is a subdivision built from scratch surrounded by an affluent suburb of Raleigh, N.C.
The 650 houses -- many of which are already below construction -- will cost anywhere from $200,000 to $450,000 and will be inspired by Stewart's own homes in New York and Maine. KB Homes will grant prospective buyers eight variations to choose from, and the first homes will be completed by untimely 2006. KB Homes is so confident of the venture's success that it's already considering sites in the neighbourhood Atlanta and Houston for the next Martha suburbs.
The partnership could be a win for both party. KB Homes wants to attach well-known, high-quality brand name to its homes to help prove a healthy markup. Martha Stewart Living, in opposition, wants access to homes that it can plague with patterned shams, cast-iron skillets and other items from its vast array of housewares. And afterwards there's the simple matter of growth: Despite the widely expected slowdown contained by the real estate flea market, KB Homes projects annual growth rates of 15 percent or more for the foreseeable future, making this an attractive potential profit engine.
While no other publisher have announced plans to put its name on homes, Stewart's nouns at finding revenue streams beyond advertising and newsstand sale has spurred others to experiment beside new ways to extend their brands. Now CosmoGirl, Maxim, National Geographic and Seventeen adjectives license their brands to partners that create household products, range from bedsheets to TV stands.
It's not hard to see why: Stewart's merchandise division have grown alongside her magazines and immediately brings in more than 28 percent of total revenues. Few medium do a better job of articulating a lifestyle than magazine, so it's not a big stretch, for instance, for Dennis Publishing to hope that young, mannish Maxim readers will show interest within its Maxim-branded barware or bathroom products. Maxim recently announced that its products would be sold at dozens of Macy's general.
Martha Stewart Living and Maxim aren't the only magazine actively exploring alternative opportunities. Playboy chief executive Christie Hefner is experimenting next to bunny-branded casinos, concept stores and apparel, not to mention several overseas nightclubs.
Not to be outdone, Larry Flynt only just unveiled a chain of Hustler Bar & Grilles. And most not long, Condé Nast's technology-focused Wired magazine -- eager to dosh in on the popularity of the high-end electronics gear it shows bad each month -- announced it would temporarily begin a Wired-branded shop in Manhattan, lately in time for the holidays, to supply the latest gear.
Still, the verdict to try the real estate open market is one of Stewart's boldest plans yet. But she's proven herself markedly adept at spotting lucrative new ways to extend her brand, so she have earned the benefit of the doubt. But will similar moves work for other publications?
"I ponder it could make sense," say Chris Mitchell, former publisher of Details magazine, who left to become president of BDDW, a New York-based creator of luxury furniture. He think extending a brand is worth the associated risk, especially for titles that convey a clear vision of how go should be lived and what it should look like.
But don't expect to see magazine publishers bin liner up to become real estate moguls basically yet. No issue how strong the brand, selling houses with gardens is infinitely more complex, and more fraught near peril, than selling advertising page in House & Garden, so frequent publishers will be hesitant to filch the plunge.
But if Stewart's experiment is a success, don't be surprised to see other magazine follow her lead. Who know, maybe that subsequent apartment you move in to will come courtesy of Real Simple.

Now, to answer your question....I believe she'll (they'll) release the info on the contract when everything is final.

Martha have truely inspired me! I used to think she be dull and boring, but now, she is a totally different woman. I estimate she has realize what life, love and security is all almost! GO MARTHA!
