It is hard to find grant to start a business and grants are NOT given for personal use. Unlike the myths that some see, federal government and even private foundations just about give give in money for a for-profit business.
Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grant.gov - these are two FREE sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grant. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit scheme.
Avoid grants.com as it is simply out to scam you. Even if you buy books on "how to draw from grants" or sites such as grants.com that supposedly have information on grants -- adjectives of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit package differently. But still the info is the same - just about any grants for starting a for profit business.
Even SBA does NOT impart out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/expanding/grants.html...
"The U.S. Small Business Administration does not volunteer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does tender a wide collection of loan programs. For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online. It's a subscription base website ($9.95 per month) but their opening blurb solely says that the database is great for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid office." Entrepreneurs are apparently not one of them, so I take it they also don't own listings of private foundations who give grant to would-be entrepreneurs.
