Then I'd locate land and have two houses built--one for me and my father (who has lived with me for many years) and one for my brother and his wife. We'd hire an employee as we all have disabilities and could use someone better able to do the proper physical upkeep, etc.
I'd invest some funds. I'd give the max amount to my brother every year that involves no tax penalty (now $12K).
I'd start a business, not sure which one, so some folks had decent jobs.
With the 10% of the $5mil I'd determine how much goes to what particular charities.
Unfortunately $5 mil is not much money anymore, especially in light of the needs in the world.
My mother is currently in a nursing home in B.C. Canada. She has Alzheimers. My dad lives nearby and suffers from a myriad of health problems...they've been married over 50 years and they're very lonely for each other now that they're apart. I live in SoCalifornia which has outrageous prices for health care, housing, esp. for elderly people or people who need full time care.
If I had 5 mil. I would have the money to bring my parents here, buy a new house where we all could live and have their needs met with full time nursing care, etc.
And if there was $$ left over I'd hit up the Louis Vuitton store at South Coast Plaza.
