What recourse after company disallows 401(k) contributions?
I am in a association and work for a large company that not long went private and discontinued its 401 (k) and allowance programs for an ESOP. The catch is that they announced that as of Jan. 1, 2008, coalition members ONLY would no longer be capable of even CONTRIBUTE to the modified retirement program that replaced the 401(k). I could understand if the company said they would no longer supplement my 401(k) but I cannot even contribute and will pinch a huge tax hit. Any suggestion?Answers: If its a qualified 401(K) and your vested account symmetry is more than $5,000, sometimes not including any money that you have rolled into it(depends on the plan rules) afterwards you should be able to preserve the money there. The solitary thing would be you couldn't contribute to it, the best item would be the IRA option. Call the copy keeper of the plan for the exact plan rules, or find a copy of the Summary Plan Document
Just because it's a confederation 401(k), doesnt mean it still couldnt be qualified beside the IRS
Start your own traditional IRA at a brokerage of your choice.
I'd also check with your alliance steward and have the grouping look into what's going on and if it's legal.
You can also contact your state labor board and request there.
Get an IRA. And acquire out of the union!
Unions served a purpose for "the workers" when workers be being seriously taken supremacy of. Nowadays the only purpose they serve is making extra money for federation bosses...think around it, why else would so many intelligent regular folks DECLINE political leanings in a association?
Union dues average around $500/year, if a union branch invested that money in an average mutual fund earn an average 10% return over a 45 year career, she'd hold about a partially million dollars.
Has your union be worth $500,000 to you personally?
Unions are a scam.

Answers: umm your social security card or ask your parent
Ask your parents if they hold your card put up in a out of danger place for you.
You can also look on the website for more information.
http://www.ssa.gov/
You know your SSN because it was on a card issued by the SS associates and you've memorized it.
If you don't have one, next apply for one at the SS office.
I'd not be so expeditious to hand out my SSN on-line next to all the identity appropriation and all that going on in this day and age.
