However, I've be able to get done positions of higher responsibility - and take-home pay - by being competent to reach outside of my core competency. Simple things close to the ability to write a persuasive, coherent resume own set me apart from others. I also write a technical blog that have increased my professional exposure. I'm neither the best nor the worst in my grazing land, but my ability to clearly present myself have opened plentiful doors.
It's not enough newly to be smart. You have to present your thinking in a mode that others can understand. Trust me, I've see the rambling, slurred compositions of some really, really smart techies. Unfortunately, when their documents are completely incoherent, their readers make available up after the first paragraph and the effort is for naught.
