This would depend on which bank you use (and I don't want to know), the amount of the check and what their policies are, whether it's a local or out of town or out of state check, personal check, business check, etc. I know most banks will make most deposited funds available by the next business day if you deposit Monday through Thursday. NEXT BUSINESS DAY meaning, if you deposit on Friday, since most of them have half days on Saturday and they aren't considered a whole business day, it will go in on Monday, same thing for Saturday deposits.
If it's an out of town/state check or for a large amount it may take 3 to 10 days for the bank to clear it for withdrawal from the account. Some have waiting periods, so they can see if the check clears first before you start spending the money to safeguard agains check fraud.
If it was cash, which it isn't, most of the time it will be immediate, but like I said, checks?, depends on the bank and it's deposit policy.
Also, you could try doing a search for the bank's name on the internet and view their checking account policies on line about how they handle their deposits. My bank's website has this stuff listed under FAQ's, and also breaks down the types of accounts and how they are handled like Business, Personal, Savings, etc.

Don't let them resolve it over the phone. be nice, have all your info together and when you deal with your bank,
Wait for a bank officer and speak directly to them -not the tellers.explain it was a mistake and you want his help to fix it.
