But it's tougher to carry grants for starting a small business
Unlike the myths that some see, federal government and even private foundations just about give give in money for starting a for-profit business.
One possible exception is for companies developing or exporting agricultural goods, including food and forest product. Another exception could be the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs http://www.sba.gov/aboutsba/sbaprograms/... , which fund the research and nouns of technological innovation that meet specific government requests.
Your best bet actually will be from the states if they proffer grant programs for women (or any other special interest groups -- minorities, women, disabled, veterans, etc). Or check beside non profit organizations, especially women organizations if they volunteer grants. Examples include

Nonetheless, you can dance to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grant.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grant. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit project.
Grants to start for-profit businesses are a myth. SBA provides LOANS, but not "free money."

You could try selling on eBay. It is pretty easy!
Go around your house and look for matured video games, electronics, books, legos, toys, or things that you don't want any more and try to sell them on eBay. I own sold a lot of stuff close by to a 12 year old.
You could also try to vend your stuff on craigslist.
