Answers: he needs to see a solicitor and hang on to a log of everything he has rewarded towards the house since they split... not romantic but unfortunately essential very soon
Often misunderstood, a joint mortgage is not one and the same as joint ownership. Ownership is determined by the work, not the mortgage. A joint mortgage simply routine that both applicants are responsible for repaying the loan. Couples often choose to apply for a integrated mortgage in charge to combine their incomes and qualify for a higher loan amount.

In a reciprocated mortgage, each gala is held equally financially liable for repayment of the loan and the payment history is applied to respectively party's credit history. While there are advantages to applying for a shared mortgage because of combined income and credit scores, it is prominent to understand how the ownership of the property is deeded.

There are two adjectives ways of recording a work of joint ownership. Most married couples own joint survivorship, which system that if one person dies, sole ownership of the property automatically reverts to the survivor. In this satchel, all i.e. needed to prove ownership is the original integrated survivorship deed and a copy of a record death pass. Property deeded as joint tenant in adjectives would apply to partners who want to own the property equally, but not to deed their portion of ownership to the other should they die. In this luggage, should one owner die, their portion of ownership would revert to their survivor(s) through probate court.

Another common misconception about joint mortgages occur when married couples divorce. Often, one spouse will quit-claim the deed to the other. This scheme that one spouse signs away any personal interest in the property and grant sole ownership to the other. However, if there is an outstanding mortgage go together on the property and the mortgage is a joint mortgage, the couple remains equally financially responsible for repayment of the loan. Should any party come to nothing to make payments, the other can be held responsible for repayment, even if they no longer own ownership rights to the property
If you are considering applying for a joint mortgage, be sure you and the other group involved are clear about how the property will be deeded and how matter will be handled should the partnership dissolve. To construe your full rights and responsibilities in a reciprocated mortgage, ask an attorney or check with the title company that will be closing the loan.

Sounds more like poor by UK standards. Ie 3rd quartile.

However, by world standards rich, probably surrounded by the top 1% of the world poulation.
If you pay into a income, the government will compensation all the charge you paid on that money and put in it to the pension pot! Also if his employer offer a pension task, they quite regularly match his contributions up to give or take a few 3% of his salary.

He would clearly be much better sour if he got a allowance.

You've listed the amount he NEEDS to spend, so if he's not spending the rest, it would be a pious idea to put some into a income. It's up to him how much he puts in at hand. I wouldn't recommend having adjectives your savings within a pension mission, because you can't get it out until you become a pensioner. So he should stash some of his reserves into a savings reason that pays good interest.

As ably as a savings justification, he may also be interested in this:
