Does anyone own any experience near Transamerica?

We are looking at 401k plans. One of the providers we are looking at is Transamerica. I was told by the salesperson for Transamerica that it is a regular 401k plan.

However, I hold also been told that Transamerica is an Insurance product. I guess this money there are extra fees and it may hold surrender charges. Like we are in some form of a contract. Does this sound right?

Our other 401k choices are Fidelity, ADP or John Hancock.

Answers: Your 401k provider should allow participant to invest in mutual funds and possibly individual stocks. Target date mutual funds are a great likelihood for inexperienced investors. Fidelity has target date funds and a biddable reputation for their mutual funds, so they would not be a bad remedy.
Transamerica is a great insurance company.
It's the best one.

Can anyone find out if anyone has had a bankruptcy in the past?

Answers: If you are applying for a new loan(home, car, etc) or credit card, then the creditor will run your credit report before accepting or denying your application. Many times a bankruptcy and/or repos will appear on your credit report even past 7 years.

Also, depending on what industry you're in, a potential employer can also do a credit check to see how you manage your personal finances.

In addition, with these "people search" websites a person who is willing to pay a fee can find out just about anything about you--from background checks, marriages/divorces, current and past addresses, and possibly bankruptcies as well.

The scary reality is your life is tied to your social security number.
Yes, though they have to look for it.

It's a part of your credit report and rating for 10 years. I know because I have gotten a few 'offers' from companies trying to get me to take new post-bankruptcy credit from them.

I live a cash only life now (except for my student loans).
Yes thru your credit report or if they look up bankruptcies thru the courts in your state. They would have to be looking for something on you.. Don't worry about it... Its not the end of the world even if they find out. If they want to find out and judge you then they have the problem. Bankruptcy is the a law that every cititzen can take advantage of if they need to. Its the law of the land so you change your view and say heck with them..
