I have to start by making a budget. I even have an evelope for spending and groceries.. etc. If I dont have the money in it, I dont do it. Keeps me VERY on track. I go to budget shows, bring my own candy and bottled soda. Shop at places like Sams or Aldi. buy no name items. Shop at second hand stores. You can allways get a deal on something. Also Dont buy just because it is there. If you will not use it... Dont buy it!
I buy things when on sale I know I will buy.. Even already started on Christmas gifts. I always start the day after Christmas. All the bath sets etc... what a deal!

f there is something you really want to buy, look the product up on line and see if there is a coupon or discount on linet o print.. Even my hair cuts. I print coupons from cost cutters all the time!
I only buy a resturant pizza for delivery, when I have a coupon, always pay at least $10 dollars more on bills like credit cards ect.

I'm on a tight budget. This is what I do.
I work two jobs. I ALWAYS take my own lunch with me. I have heaps of frozen sandwiches and serves of curry or soup or pasta frozen in the freezer. The night before, I just take out what I need, put it in the fridge (defrosting in the fridge saves energy bills because it keeps the fridge cool) and take it the next day. This alone saves me hundreds of dollars a year.
Where I live, we don't have much use for coupons (Australia). I go to the big department store, Kmart, and buy washing powder and toilet paper when they have their 15% off sale. This saves me a lot on what I'd spend at the supermarket.
If it's really cold or hot, put a blanket up over your curtains inside. This will insulate the window, and you'll lose less heat through the glass. Also, wear jumpers and coats inside if it's really cold. If I'm home alone, I hardly ever use the heater.
Don't buy processed foods at the supermarket. I buy vegies and basic ingredients (I also grow my own vegies -- this saves heaps) and make things from scratch. Freezing a meal for when you're too tired to cook is a good incentive not to go have takeout. Practice has made me a decent cook. I just learn 3 or 4 good recipes and cook slight variations of them.
Always buy generic. Most of the time you would not notice the difference between generic and brand name stock. Coffee would have to be the only exception I have found to this rule. If you buy generic, and buy brand stock only when it is on special, you will save money over the year.
Use energy saving light globes. Don't worry about the cost of buying them. We bought a few at a time and replaced incandescent globes as they died. We have had the same few globes for about 3 years now. We replaced one in the bathroom because my partner (he's 6 feet tall) was taking his jumper off and smacked the globe out of the socket with the back of his hand. Some of these globes are from 3 houses ago! They are worth the money. Go for lower wattage globes where you can, and save higher ones for the kitchen and lounge room, where you might need brighter light.
If you have any loans, pay them out early. This saves heaps on interest.
Think before you use the phone or drive somewhere. Do you need to make that call? Can it wait until you can go and see them in person? Use the phone to save driving. If you need to call and find something out, rather than driving and wasting fuel, then call.
Pay bills ahead of their due date to get all the discounts you can. Car pool to work or get a renter into your house to save money.
Just doing a few little things over time can save you big dollars. Every little bit helps.
