Personal Finance Questions and Answers

I am going to the bank for a loan.to consolidate. any suggestions?

Answers: This is a really broad question...

Important things to consider:
1) See if there are any prepayment penalties. You shouldn't be penalized for paying off your loan early. Ask about this specifically, otherwise you could wind up paying extra money in the long run.
2) It is better to negotiate a lower payment and pay extra each month. That way, if you ever have a 'bad month' your monthly payment obligation will still be manageable.

Example: If you can get a loan for 5 years, but you really want to pay it off in 4 years (and you can afford the 4 year payment amount), still go with the 5 year option but pay extra each month. You can still pay it off in 4 years, but if you ever have a 'crunch month' you'll have a little safety buffer to work with.

3) Don't borrow more than you need. The object is to get OUT of debt, not to get in more debt. Often times banks will try to 'upsell' you. Be careful.

Feel free to post more specific questions for more help.
Ask for more than you think you'll need.

Don't act desperate.

Let them know you are looking at other institutes for the best rate and would like to hear what kind of rates/terms they can offer.
what I did was go to a government funded credit counselling organization. It is free. They consolidate your debt and then you only pay a minimum amt every month to them. They distribute that amount to all of your creditors and they get paid off. And the payments are very low.

I don't know what the government run free agencies are in other provinces but you could search for them.

I looked again when I had some time and found this:
free non-profit credit counsellors of Canada - for each province

hope that helps
Before going to a bank to consolidate, I want you to contact your local United Way office and get a referral to a local Consumer Credit Counseling Service. (Go through United Way so that you're certain that you are dealing with a legitimate non-profit agency). They'll help you out with both budgeting and with contacting your creditors to make arrangements for lower payments and, if appropriate, lower interest rates.

STAY AWAY from the TV / Radio advertised counseling agencies and the ones that you read about in magazines.

The legit counseling service will be able to tell you whether it's best to go through them or to a bank for consolidation. The legit ones are non-profit and are located right in your own community ---- and usually associated with local churches and the United Way.

Good luck and hope this helps!

How normally does interest apply to disc accounts? For example I am considering pipe a disc acct near my mound at?

4.26 % with a 4 month old age date, whatever that mode. Could someone help me numeral out what benefit I would have pipe this acct?

Answers: every six months
Interest applied to your cd depends on your bank, some accrue interest day by day, monthly, weekly and even quarterly (6 months). To be sure about this, ask when you start the cd. It won't really how you earn it as long as you get equal return for your money at the maturity date (the date when your cd is over). I work at a mound and you have an opportunity to have the interest any be paid to you every month or reinvested surrounded by the cd. I highly recommend reinvesting it, this will go and get you the most growth. Ask about this too.

Before you do agree on to go ahead and approachable a cd, please go to www.bankrate.com, this site will compare adjectives the cd's available in your nouns. The benefits of a cd include:

- Depending on the interest rate, you can beat inflation

- You hold an interest rate no concern how the market does, so your guaranteed the rate until the old age date

- Depending on where you procure the cd, it should be FDIC insured up to $100,000 incase something were to occur so you are protected.

-Its money from the government so you hold piece in mind.

- And your increase money over time just by putting it nearby
