I want to fix my mortgage at 5.85%. What is going to happen to interest rates in the coming 5 years in the UK?

Answers: If I knew the answer to that - I'd be a rich man in 5 years time... However, I would suggest that a 5.85% rate is a good rate to get fixed for as long as you can.

Either that or look at a flexible mortgage like the First Direct Smartmortgage, if you have any savings - you could offset your mortgage with your savings, whilst keeping your savings available for a rainy day.

How long does it take for one to get a clear credit report, once a defaulted payment is settled?

Answers: it's 7 yrs from the last date of activity

10 yrs if its a bankruptcy
Usually up to 7 years.

Does anyone else have major issues with and hate Bank of America?

Answers: I don't have them but I heard they can sometimes be annoying with their policies. Also, they are one of the few banks that do not require a social security number to open an account there...translation...they support illegal immigration. I do not like that.

I hate them. Once the State of Kalifornia siezed my bank account and B of A didn't tell me until I had written several hundred dollars in checks.

Update: We closed an accout recently because we moved. My wife got a statement today. They reopened the account and charged us two months service fee for having a zero balance!
Yeah,

I don't like their support of illegal aliens. They shouldn't be handing out bank accounts to these people.
Yes, I got rid of them after deductions were being made against my account for "services" I never signed up for, or even heard of for that matter, from a company I'd never heard of.
B of A is service partners w/a company called Trilegiant (TLG), which offers a suite of services like "Great Fun"; "Travelers Advantage", some AAA-type auto club service, etc.
Apparently, they do free credit reports for B of A customers.
I began seeing monthly charges against my checking account for like $9, $10, $11 that looked on the statement like typical atm card charges, ( I use my check card for everything - groceries, gas, etc.), so I didn't actually notice a problem immediately - My fault for not paying closer attention.
When I finally realized what was going on (after two mths), I discovered I was "enrolled" in 4 of these programs/services, and being charged every month for them. I called Bank of America.
They pretty much treated me like I was an imbecile, and basically tried to tell me I had indeed signed up for these services, perhaps "accidently". I asked the woman if she'd lost her mind, and if she thought four separate accidents of this nature was actually possible. She murmered something.
Then she suggested that I possibly signed up when I bought something on-line. I said impossible.
She said maybe when I'd activated my atm card over the phone I signed up for these services. I said I'm not insane, but nice try. My card had been activated for years.

They told me to call a different 800#, which I thought was a different B of A dept, but it was actually a call-center for one of these Trilegiant services. I ended up having to fax a written request to a different # for each of the services to get a refund, and request a cancellation of my "memberships", and if I didn't have the "account #" for each I couldn't get a refund.

I still got screwed $40 in the process. B of A initially refunded it, but then sent me a letter from corp headquarters stating that they found "no evidence of fraud" and deducted the $40 from my account again.

G00GLE "trilegiant", theres a bunch of info about how they screw ppl, have been sued for it, etc.

You don't want to have dealings w/ a bank that partners with/unleashes scam artists on it's customers. I'd avoid Bank of America.
