Personal Finance Question and Answers

Do you come up with credit cards are a trap for irresponsible citizens?

Question:
You always hear or see in the region of someone going into debt.

Answers:
Credit Cards are a trap. PERIOD.

No one intends to go into impossible debt or file ruin.

It happens because we know more give or take a few how to purchase something for just $** a month than we know nearly how to live on less than we brand name.

Instead of learning how to reclaim for holidays, birthdays, vacations, and emergency, we are taught to maintain an emergency credit card.

Instead of building up our net worth we are qualified to build up our credit "I love debt" score.

Credit Cards are a trap for the "unmathematic", the inpatient, the variable, the uninformed, and (worst of all) the poor.
one word simple answer ABSOLUTELY
I believe so, although banks don't want you thinking that.
Yes it is a trap for irresponsible relatives. People do not think it can start, but it does. Some people even think it's free money. Plus the interest rates are ridiculously high.
No, you can't blame credit cards for culture bad money problems. Even if you hold a credit card doesn't mean you enjoy to "charge" something you can't afford. It's not a trap, they are useful surrounded by increasing you credit score. Which surrounded by turn, will help you out contained by purchasing a house, car, etc.
It's call free will... not a trap...
Sure. But so are casinos... and they are legal within some states. Predators vs Prey. People without the financial ability OR knowledge can be unforced prey for the CC companies.
No. (They are a trap for employed people)
they are a trap for irresponsible and responsible people alike.

Lots of individuals on here say they borrow on them and later pay them stale before the interest. McDonald's said that when they started accepting credit cards the average transaction go from $4.75 to $7.00. You spend more with plastic.

"I a moment ago use them for emergency's". That's bull spit too. you can save up an emergency fund. that the worst time to shift into debt.

another is that they are using them to build credit. You have to borrow money and stay contained by debt to have and hold on to a high fico chalk up (I LOVE DEBT SCORE). You have to engineer payments and pay interest. Wow, newly think of the money you would own every month if it wasnt going to payments.

You dont need a credit ranking for a home loan. Manual underwiting. The way it use to be done since the fico score. Same interest rate as someone next to a high fico chalk up.

Can simply really be a Credit Union, There are also people resembling Provident & Welcome, they will come to your door weekly, however they do charge high interest because you are elevated risk because you have poor credit. You would do better trying to make higher funds through eBay at least later you will not be borrowing for the loan and paying a lot more final.

I involve a well brought-up student credit card?

Question:
My parents want me to pick out a credit card to start building credit. My dad has offered to cover the annual allowance. Whats the best interest rate I can look for and does anyone have a card that they consider is really good for someone near no credit?

PS it must be visa or mastercard

Answers:
There is no such thing as a apposite credit card , cash within the bank speaks more than credit near a company that you pay to allow you to borrow money you do not hold ...Credit cards are for suckers ...the chances of a credit card hurting your credit gain are far greater than than the chance they will comfort , I have immaculate credit , never had a credit card , I merely pay my bills on the dot I only enjoy two more years on my mortgage , and pay currency for cars . Credit card companies are begging me to rob their card ,but I always deny them . Plus the more start on accounts ,and credit limits you own , will mean smaller amount credit you are allowed when you are ready to purchase core things such as house , and or cars.
I would avoid gettting a credit card until you are at least 21.

or, acquire one that you build up money on like a sandbank account consequently you spend it.

There are other ways of getting a good credit rating save for a credit card...consult a credit counselor.

Credit cards are the devil!
USAA
I got my first card through them as a student when I begin college. They gave me a 7.5% rate that moved up to around 9.5% after 6 months. It is great to start near. The credit limit is plenty for an emergency, but it is not large ample to get you into key debt.

USAA.com check it out (Mine is a Mastercard)
I am with the natwest and when i go to uni i was offered a student credit card (this be in 2002), at the time the it be interest free for 6 months and if you pay rotten your balance every month no intrest is accrue, this was by far the best agency to built up a good credit rating, and it be a mastercard...check out natwest website to see what they have on extend still, but shop around all bank offering incentives, find the right deal for you!
in that is no good student credit card.
Get a Visa or Mastercard check card. It draws from your checking narrative and is welcome everywhere credit cards are used. Then you can develop a good credit history formerly applying for your own.

You should also consider credit cards that don't have annual fees. We've used credit cards for years, paying rotten the balance at the call a halt of the month. No fees and no interest payments. Check with your local credit coalition as they usually have packages designed for students.
The best two college student credit cards I know of are the Citi mtvU card and the Citi Driver's Edge for Students card. These are superior because of their rewards.

Your strategy for using credit cards should be to use them approaching you would use cash -- to buy most/all of your conventional purchases -- and always rate your balance within full each month. That channel you'll:

1. Build your credit quickly
2. Avoid interest (the interest rate (APR) won't matter)
3. Earn rewards!

To determine the student rewards card that will foot you the most for your spending profile, you can use this rewards calculator:
http://www.creditcardtuneup.com/?card_ty...
Not all possible and available college student credit cards are right for everyone. You should avoid one that charges an excessively soaring interest rate, unless you know for a fact that you will be paying it stale in full at the finale of the month. Keep in mind that the credit card issuers are taking a bit of a luck on you, since you probably have little or no credit history established, and hence the interest rate on virtually ANY credit card you are approved for is going to be higher than "usual", where on earth "usual" would be the rate that perhaps your parents would bring back approved for, since they already have a credit history established. Compare popular student credit card at: http://www.credit-card-gallery.com/stude... and apply online for a best one.
I recommend the Chase flexible rewards card for students. It have no annual fee. Like any student credit card it will probably own a high apr so it is best to other pay the go together in full every month.

My Mom wishes to move off me money but doesnt want to walk off bread..and her debit card say "see id" and philosophy?

Question:
she is going on a trip and she needs to leave your job me money. however we have a burglar in the line coming to stay with us so she doesnt want to exit cash. her debit card say "see id" and obvioulsly im not her..i need relief quick! any thinking?!?!

Answers:
I have never be asked for ID using a debit card. They usually have you swipe it yourself and enter your PIN. You can use it to annul cash, too.
By the passageway, I have a credit card near my picture on it. The back say in black float "CHECK MY ID". My bf has used my card and never be asked for ID either.
My brother's friend used to steal money out of my room. I get a keyed lock door knob. The best passageway for her to leave you money is dosh, or she could give you her pin number and wage by debit instead of credit.
You can use her card at an atm...
or,she can get you a "prepaid"credit card..they are pretty prevelant in this day and age and most convienient stores sell them.
You can G00GLE the words"prepaid credit card"after find one and a location near you.
Just bring the debit to an ATM and get the bread from there. Make sure she tell you her pin and you memorize it, so even if the person steals it, they can't use it.
if it's her debit card acquire the pin, they usually don't ask for i.d. if you have the pin otherwise use the debit card to shift to the ATM and get money when you entail it. Keep the extra money in your bra, no clothed family contributor will search in attendance to steal.
Traveler's checks. Just don't keep the receipts surrounded by the same place as the check. that style if the get lost or stolen, you can use your bill to file your claim and obtain your money back.
No one in fact looks at your card anymore. That said, the 'thief' can do more damage beside the card than with lolly. If he takes $100 contained by cash, he simply gets $100. If he take the debit card, he can clean out the narrative AND overdraw the account. Overall, the lolly is actually safer. only don't let your nearest and dearest thief close by your wallet.
Simply ask her to issue you a cheque so it can be credited into your acc.

www.soundinvesting.blogspot.co...
If you are old ample and it is not too late. Have the ridge issue a debit card in your own first name. (Make sure you tell the ridge to deliver the card and pin info to the bank branch and singular release it to you or your mother). I would not trust a thief to see my kids. The "see id" is not accepted at closely of places, they will refuse to lug it. Some places require id to be shown when making the purchase.

Has anyone done the Peace University program by Dave Ramsey? If yes, what is your view?

Question:
I have the CDs and I am looking for a place to purloin the courses but sometimes I questions his new ways of viiewing Credit Cards and credit . Thank you in credit!

Answers:
FPU is great! It helped us draw from on the same page financially.
The single thing we question in his ways be the $1000 emergency fund. We have relations in two other states- 12-19 hour drives away. We fixed to save a $1000 emergency fund and a $1000 emergency travel fund (in satchel one of our family member becomes severely ill or a tragedy happens).

Other clever, his ideas aren't far-reaching about credit cards. Credit cards guzzle into your earning contained by ways you aren't aware of unless you start working his program. You will spend less and stockpile less cast-offs when you use cash. You will start asking yourself "do I really stipulation this? Is this a need or a want?" Just close to grandpa and grandma ask themselves.

I challenge you to transport the class (FPU), apply his principles and see if you don't start changing your view.

Good luck! And be weird, be debt free!
I enjoy not gone through Financial Peace University, but I have read The Total Money Makeover, and am working my road through the baby steps, and they are working since January.

Following his plan have given us control over our money and helped us find the money to compensate off our debts. We've salaried off $20K this year.

Good luck!
His prospect of credit IS NOT radical. Ask your grandparents, or anyone's grandparents. They would consider his view NORMAL.
I dont think his vista of credit cards are so radical. Banks kind you think you entail them. listen to the commercials on tv. Think about it. Some inhabitants say hold on to em for emergancy. I use to think that. Now i collect up an emergancy fund for that.

mcdonalds said that when they started taking credit cards the average transaction went from $4.75 to $7.00. There is no mood when using them so you spend more. If you lay down cash its thrilling.
The course is fantastic. Beyond fantastic, even. Dave has no world-shattering ideas on credit. Instead, he uses proper 100 % common sense. Thanks to Dave, I am terribly close to being completely debt free. I preference you the same species of success. God bless !!

How to throw away expired credit cards?

Question:
I have expired credit cards. I want to throw them away. How do you do it? Cut the into small pieces? will I be not dangerous from ID theft? Thank you for your answers.

Answers:
ALWAYS cut the cards into 'strips' using the 'longest side' and adjectives the strips so that none of the numbers or you name can be see ... it's really best to put the card through a 'confetti shredder' because that 'really chews them up' ... but BEWARE ... there are 'identity thieves' who can progress through the garbage and 'pick out' the pieces of a card and 'reassemble it' to seize all of the information, so I in reality put the 'cut card' in next to some really STINKY, WET, ICKY garbage so they won't want to 'touch it' to extract the pieces.
cut them crosswise acrosss the tale numbers; then shred them up and down.
I shred mine.
help yourself to scissors and cut them into tiny pieces. be careful
simply throw them out the window.
virtuous old craze pair of scissors will do
shred them, or burn them
cut them into pieces throw one partly away one week save the partner and throw it away a few weeks later
You enjoy to cut them up.
cut it up
I get rid of mine by adjectives them up into small pieces.
scratch and destory it and afterwards toss it
Just cut it up. If you are that worried, put the pieces into two separate trash bags.
cut them up surrounded by tiny pieces, or shred them. You don't have to verbs abput ID theft end in that card number is no longer valid. The most they csn get is your designation.
I cut them in small pieces & throw almost half of the pieces away sometime & a week or so later throw out the wife so they aren't dumped in equal place.
shred them or cut them up into little pieces then throw some of the pieces away within several trash cans.
I am uber paranoid nearly that.. I usually take a biddable strong pair of scissors and cut right across the middle where on earth the numbers are, then cut the remaining adjectives into tiny pieces, then I throw different parts into different trash heaps, so they are not all contained by the same pod (in case some bright genious tries to puzzle it adjectives back together)
Yes, cut the card into small pieces, or you may even be capable of put them in a treatise shredder. Then I would wrap up the pieces in article or something so it is not obvious within your trashcan that is a cut card. As long as you can't read the numbers, you should be fine.
We use lots of credit cards and payment cards in my business when we are done we run them thru the shredder!!
The best agency is to shred your expired credit cards. If you don't have any shredder that take credit cards, just cut it contained by small pieces.
Cut them into 4 pieces each, next to numbers divided between the pieces. Throw them out via different trash bins (some from home, some while you're out).
If you are no longer carrying a balance on them, telephone & cancel them. And generate sure that you tell them that you are VOLUNTARILY canceling them.

If you are still using them, only just shred them or like you said cut them into tiny pieces. If it be ME being the paranoid type, I would throw some away surrounded by one weeks trash & some in subsequent weeks… But like I said – specifically just me…

You are never 100% protected from identity robbery.
Cut them up and throw the pieces into different trash cans. Or build a fire surrounded by a fireplace or fire pit in your patio and burn them if you are really nervous. Thing is, expired cards can't hurt you if you trust your mound to not divulge info if someone calls.
People's identity is getting stolen more and more at the moment so when you have any information in the region of an account number or your SSN you call for to shred all the paperwork you don't have need of. With an expired credit card I would either cut it into tiny pieces or put them through your shredder.
I shred them, or you can cut across all along the numbers and then hold a field afternoon cutting them up into little pieces and after toss the pieces on a campfire.
Cut them into small pieces (very small), but don't throw away all the pieces at impossible to tell apart time or in indistinguishable bin.
Maybe throw some away at home and some at work so it's not possible to puzzle it hindmost together

P.S. I work at a Bank
Dear Divine:

Get some scissors and cut them credit cards; also make sure you enjoy closed your account and if you call for further assistance call the 1-800 customer service number. I hope this help!

Sincerely,

monitor3x3@yahoo.com
best way is to procure a shredder, this way not a soul could possible try to put them together
I feed mine to the shredder - partly at work, half at home.
Put them contained by a good shredder.

What would you do beside 21 million dollars?

Question:
At your age now, what would you do beside all this money!?
It's a certain fact that empire who win the lotto waste it and throw it away because they budge silly with it.don't direct it.

Answers:
i would want to buy a business or invest it on something that will keep giving me more surrounded by return...and go shopping logically! lol
I would by 20 houses and rent them out. I would be able to live on that money alone and the rest I would invest.
Buy dignified yield commercial valid estate. i can easily seize $500k/yr in rental next to that kind of money. or buy soaring dividend yield stock when it drop within price.
$21 million is more than $4,000/week for 100 years. That is without any return on investment. I could take-home pay off everything I owe, everything my parents and siblings owe, and still draw 3 times my current income. That set off plenty of room for charity.
definately I would retire !! Invest most of the money and spend it wisely.
I would allocate consequently evenlly with those 25 stocks:

Then, I always extension up begging my friends for money, and they administer it to me. It's like I hold a addiction to shopping. HELP ME PLEASE?!?!

Answers:
It's the feel-good factor of getting something you like specifically so powerful. You could get a different apposite feeling by channel some of your time into helping others - even look on it as a challenge - bring your friends on the train, it would be good for them too - you could do it together, as a troop - there are bound to be charities or organization somewhere near you that would generosity enthusiastic volunteers.

You are a teenager, so haven't slightly found the Real World yet - where on earth grown-ups pay their own bills, and work to find the money. If you be to find a part-time livelihood, you could be spending your own money...

And perhaps after you could buy something your parents would like, to thank them for their bounty all these years...

You are already aware that the spending is raging. That is the first step in tackle the problem. Could you invert this into How Much Can I Save?

Good Luck!!
Don't take any money to the shopping precinct..
Don't go to the store, and stop looking at things.
Don't ask a cross-examine and then recount us how NOT to answer it. Get a job; when you see how sturdy it is to earn it yourself, you won't spend it so freely.
I went through this... I spent every penny on clothes. Now I control myself... but i'm not a youngster anymore... I'm saving for my adjectives now. I put 50% of my paycheck away and budget the rest of my money... so at hand is a certain amount of "fun" money but I can choose how I spend it.

Gotta be honest I miss clothes... and style.
The traditions that you develop now are going to follow you into adult years. And, as an adult, the consequences are much more costly. I would suggest the following:

Everytime you receive money, even if it's a dollar - save some of it!

Open up some type of hoard, IRA or money market statement to house the money you are saving. Over the years, you will hold THOUSANDS if you do this.

Create some long term and short permanent status goals. Maybe you can gather up to buy yourself a car or something really nice. Don't fritter away money on small things. If you are going to spend, make it worth your time.
Set a budget for yourself every month. Say you return with 200 bucks every month. Spend 40 clothes 50 food 25 extras 30 gas 50 for savings Put your nest egg in a flawless bank to attain interest. Good Luck! Trust me your savings immediately will really help u within the future!
Unfortunately the two answers you don't want are the correct solutions to your problem.

My girlfriend have the same problem as you do, and she deal with it by setting aside a clear in your mind amount of money each month strictly to release - money she doesn't bring with her. That agency, if she overspends, she forces herself to scrape by for the rest of the month. (Actually, I usually train up paying for her if she does that.)
Pick a style of clothes and buy only things related to that. Buy two completely different pieces and buy the rest to go around those at patio sales, clearance, goodwill, church rummage, and trademark some of your own. Have you ever watche dthe American classic "PRETTY IN PINK". You should. There is so much to that movie but just focus on the trend for now. You don't hold to be rich to act approaching a movie star. That's fun. Then when you outgrow that style do the same next to another.
Ok serious answer: If you find yourself in a situation where on earth you found something that you really want, remember where to find it, impart it a day or two and if you still touch that you still want to get it, next do so. But to really avoid spending unnecessarily, simple... Don't go to the shopping precinct and try getting a job at McDonalds, this style, you'll feel how intricate it is to get money and much more spend it.
Elaine is on to something - if you enjoy to earn your money, you'll spend it less.

It's concrete when you are young to control your impulse - heck, I'm a lot elder than you and I have trouble still (but it better than when I be young)

Don't bring MUCH money - bring as much as you are comfortable spending, and leave the rest. Of course you will want some - for sodas and anything - and you can focus that you don't need this stuff. It sounds approaching you are starting to feel it. At some point, those of us who resembling to shop, we realize that we have too much stuff - it's not fun anymore.

You could even check out a Shopaholics Anonymous group (yes, it really can be addicting) they will give support to you understand where on earth some of these impulses come from.

And, be honest near your friends on days you feel "weak" Just update them you are trying to learn to let go and don't think you can control yourself if you run to the mall - copious of them will probably understand (and probably know what it's close to to spend too much and regret it later)

A last thought - if you set off the tags on things and don't use them, you can probably return them ... it's not nearly as fun as buying things, but they you bring back your money back (and it may consent to you think twice up to that time you buy something else you don't need and may regret!)

Best of luck!
Start by recitation your friend to never give you money. Even step as far to have them sign something truism they will never give you money for anything unless it's an emergency.
An emergency would be you are dieing or physically contained by need of support.
Next get a piggy hill or a jar or what ever and put 1/2 or more of any money you get within that jar. Make sure you cannot open the jar unless you break it. money can step in individual. You can even give the jar to your parrents to put by on you
That way even if you tumble to temptation you can singular spend 1/2 or less of the money you get.
Finally it just comes down to will power. Wow I really want thoes shoes- tough. No you can't enjoy them, no you don't need them. WALK AWAY. Learn to read aloud no to yourself.
Ask your friends to help you, they are your friends and they will. If you do buy something and obtain home and feel guilty return it! In most cases it is not irriversible.
I'm a girl, and when I be 15 I saved up 1500 dollars over a summer because I get a job. That year I get to go on a trip to russia next to the school and that remunerated for almost all of it.
You can do it too, you purely need to pinch controle of the situation, hopefully with rather help from your friends.
Good luck.
A $35 cuddly toy bear is fairly expensive. Did you really need this one?

I suggest that you set yourself a budget and stick to it.
Perhaps you can find out if nearby are poor families who are within need of clothes, food or toys for their children.

I bet that you would touch a lot better have spent your money on a more worthwhile cause.
you can narrate your parents about your challenge to save money, and probably agree on instead of hand you the money, keep most of it within a savings commentary that they'll keep for you..

if you can draw from a job, allot a percentage to 401k because it's close to saving surrounded by a piggy bank that you can't break unless there's an emergency.. 10% is great, but if you can do 25% (i think that's the maximum), you'll be surprised near what happens after 5-10 years, at a time when you're still contained by your 20's..

research the internet on articles about 'how to stop shopping', there's a great deal out there to abet you more..
First part is to be aware of your spending. You can be further aware by seeing where on earth you would be if you put the money into savings instead of spending it. Set a aspiration to save a undisputed amount by a chosen date... and have a reward for when you do manage that. Say take a percentage of that hoard and then you are allowed to spend it on a strange outfit or a trip you want to go on.
I use a budgeting program call CalendarBudget.com
I am able to look into the adjectives on the calendar and see how much is going to be in my statement. So it would be good for you to lift 40% of what's given to you and put it into a savaings account. Give 10% to a charity to contribute back to culture that could really use it (maybe see people that do hold much less than you. to gladden you to save so you don't ever wrapping up up in that situation). Then hold the remaining 50% and use that as you wish... So you do enjoy some spending money but able to collect some at the same time.
Budget yourself and use the budgeting program to see when you will hold enough money for that 1 item that you want.
Do share your objective with your freinds and your parents... own them see your progress and be excited with you. The encouragement other goes a LONG method.

If I am competent to salvage 500 dollars a month, where on earth would be the best place to put it?

Question:
Just was wondering what would be the best place for me to put money away, that will gain me maximum savings and power

Answers:
Depends on when you'll need access to it, but as a broad rule:
1. Retirement account, up to 15% of your income.
2. Create a 6 month reserve within a money market information.
3. Pay off debt, start next to consumer debt, end beside your home.
4. Childrens college.
5. Other investments...
if you are wanting to save it for retirement I would verbalize to a personal invester because they can get you surrounded by deals if just liberate up up for a lil while in a sandbank account and put it within cd's because they give the absolute interest rate with no risks that are out in attendance
If you don't want to lock it into a CD because you may obligation access to it from time to time, I'd suggest an orange stash account through ING Direct... they're paying over 4% interest, and it's FDIC insured. Let me know if you're interested and I can dispatch you a referral... if your initial deposit is $250 or more you'll get a $25 sign-up bonus and I'll grasp $10.
Open a money market fund (See Fidelity, TR Rowe, ING etc.) for the best money open market funds paying the highest interest.
Set up automatic monthly deduction from your checking into your savings/money market fund justification.

As your money grows start strategizing as to how you would like to diversify (stock, bonds, valid estate etc) Don't put all your eggs surrounded by one basket.
Moneymarket fund or compact disc which offers the uppermost interest rate. You can try equity funds if you are willing to bear some risk. From http://mycash.info
for retirement, go for a roth ira through vanguard or fidelity

to own your money liquid, put within a money market vindication through vanguard or fidelity, currently at about 5%
