Roll it over into an IRA. I don't think you can put it into a Roth since to be precise post-tax and your 401k is pretax. Go to any large edge or investiment company (Wachovia or Vangaurd for example) that you trust and ask about their IRA rollover packages. A gift card or debit card would be the instrument to go. I surmise all the chief credit card companies do them and they can be used anywhere their cards are accepted. You merely have to own the money upfront to load onto the card.
Visa have a gift card that can be used similar to a credit card. Most large bank have them. I believe they are loaded near what ever amount you want on it.You can have her added to a credit card that you don't use beside a specified spending limit and distribute her on with that.
Visa gift card or adding up her on to your account would be the best. Don't jump with travelers checks. They can be difficult to dosh and some places will charge you a premium for doing so. You will get a much better exchange near a credit card.
