What program do I use to enter checks that I can look up by number, date, or receiver?

I could look up by check number, by vendor designation, date of check, or category. Can I do that with ms bureau excell? Or is there software I can download free to do this?Answers:

Just have column heading like check #, date, receiver etc.
You can also add category by making drop-down lists or v-lookups.
You can any sort them every time or do an auto-filter by highlighting the heading row and hitting data, filter.
