Question for Portland, Or peers 35-40. I'm moving soon to Portland w/ a Govt work, $36K single woman.?

I own a home in Texas immediately, and will sell that when I move. But I notice that I do not make ample to own a home in Portland so I will want to rent. What neighborhoods near the downtown nouns are affordable and safe plenty to fit within my budget of up to $1000 a month?
Is the St Johns neighborhood worthy?
I prefer not to have an overwhelming commute, I hold heard that adjectives the bridges into downtown are constantly crowded being on impossible to tell apart side of the river as downtown.

Thanks for your help!

Answers:    Not anyone able to own a home is not as bleak of a deal as it seem. I just read an article on MSN money that proves why renting and good is better in the long run than buying, and not abiding or getting a return on your investment. Anyhow, for a $1000/mo. you should look around Multnomah Village, NW Portland, and in the Beaverton nouns. I would not suggest living in the St. Johns neighborhood, it is a impartially unpredicted neck of the woods--both surrounded by terms of crime and amenities.

Depends on what you are looking to do: arts, parks, music, etc. you should look around the outlying areas of downtown Portland. There are also several affordable apartments to hand Portland State, and around 14th and Clay area.

Good Luck, and if you inevitability more info or assistance, you can email me at syedpdx(a)gmail.com
