You are much better off talking to a local mortgage broker. If you do not know one a real estate agent, where you live, can give you a referal.
There are mostly scams and con artist around here, you don't want to deal with them.

What are Interest Rates for Mortgages in the Chicago area going to do over the next few weeks?
Answers: Probably the same thing they are going to do all over the USA.
They dropped drastically...which means they will jump back up for a few days and drop again.
Seriously...if you have a loan in underwriting right now that plans on closing within the next two weeks i would lock it...
Look at the past trends..drastic drops are followed by a small jump..historically...
Do your homework for yourself if you dont believe...
If you dont plan on closing for 3-4 weeks then let it ride ;-)

Mortgage rates are likely to drop over the next few months. Current 30-year rates for good credit are 5.75% with 0 points.
If you are willing to pay points, you can get rates at 5.00% or lower. Points are pre-paid interest.
Anyone offering a lower ZERO-point rate is probably lying to you. Ask them to give you a rate quote without having to give your telephone number or SSN.
Sorry lb_centa, but 30 year fixed rates as of today, January 16, 2008 are 5.25% for those that qualify. (No discount points)
As far as what rates are going to do, I always suggest to my clients that we lock a great rate when we have it.
Ever watch Deal or no Deal? Have you even seen anyone leave with $250,000 really that upset when there was $300,000 in their case? Answer: Never! Why? Because the risk of getting more than what they needed was not worth it. When shopping for rates you need t consider all factors. If you are in the market now, I would lock this while you can.
Mortgage rates nationally, including Chicago are volatile and unpredictible, so beware anyone who would give you an unqualified "read". However, that said, I believe the markets have already priced in a Fed Rate cut at the end of the month. I think there is more risk of rates rising over the next few weeks if we have any surprises, than them going down further.
