I have site built homes and a modular. The modular is much better built. Mine is a patriot and have a 10 year warranty. I had to hold the carpet replaced due to a runner manufacture irregularity. I contacted Shaw (the manufacture) and they gave me the run around. I contacted the home builder and they be of great assistance in flexing they bulk buying muscle and persuading shaw to replace my mat. My contractor was horrible and scheduling which made my build nick longer than it should but the home itself was organized on time. The delay were within the finishing mostly the added garage, sidewalks, patio and deck.
Sorry I can't give you any info for MD builders but my experience be positive and would definitely look into it subsequent time.
To help remove some confusion Manufatured homes (aka trailer or mobile) are built to federal standards HUDand built on a metal frame they have a vin # close to a car. They will be rolled onto a permantent foundation or jacked up and enjoy a foundation built under them. Modular homes are stick built to local standards. The difference is a stick verbs built home is built on site and modular is built off verbs and placed buy a crane onto a permanent foundation.
You will own to check with resale, insurance and financing issues contained by your area. In my nouns modulars and sight built appraise, insure and nouns the same. I live surrounded by a rural area be no permits are required and modular homes are a much safer buy than heaps of the local built homes.
Modular and Manufactured are essentially semantics. If the home came within pieces and was assembled on site, you are going to settle higher interest rates.
Modulars do not hold their efficacy as stick built homes do.
Depending on what type of basement/foundation you have, it might be more to insure.

This is taking into consideration that you already own your own land, and it is cleared and approved for septic. For this house it is accurate that you are interested in a two story home. It is smaller quantity expensive to "build up than out" since the foundation and basement will be smaller and use smaller amount material than if you be looking for a 2500 sq. ft. house all on one horizontal. It is hard to use the companies I work near as a point of reference since I"m contained by another state, but depending on which options you choose, we enjoy sold houses around that size for $70 and $95 per sq. ft., so you are in the right ballpark. The shortened basement may put in another $10,000 or so to the cost of the foundation.
There are a few modular home manufacturers contained by Pennsylvania that probably would have contractors that build surrounded by Maryland.
