Renting Real Estate Questions and Answers

Do you think the fed will lower interest rates again soon?

Answers: They more then likely will, they need to keep the banks from going under. The country really is in a very bad position.

I seriously doubt the lower interest will have any effect on consumers, other then keeping the country from crumbling into a recession.
YES. The fed chairman said this week that they are lowering rates. The question is now how much, 1/4 or 1/2.

However, this may or may not lower mortgage rates.

THe current 30 year fixed rate is at a 2 year low (per the Washington Post, 1/12/08). The current rate is 5.75%.

The lowest that the 30 year EVER went was 5% for a few hours about 3-4 years ago. At it's lowest time, the rate was around 5.5% to 5.75%.

Plus this time we have inflation to worry about!!.

I believe rates are just about where you will see them. Maybe 5.5%, but if you are looking to lock. I would do it soon. Because the news of a drop in rates have already been factored into the current rates. When the fed actually lowers them later this month, it will not effect mortgage rates.
It is likely they will. Fed Chair Bernanke in a speech last week indicated that the Fed was willing and ready to reduce rates again to aid the ailing housing sector.
