It does not have to be typed. Read you lease to see if nearby are any requirements such as where you own to send it and to whom it have to be sent.
Just make sure you date the communication and it is readable if it is handwritten. State the letter is your spot that you will moving out in 30 days from the date of the memo or from whatever date if is. You may want to dispatch it certified mail to catch a receipt of him unloading it if you think it will be a problem.
