Buy tentative property or build on my current topography?

My husband and I live next door to his mother, we own about 5 acres of domain in an nouns that is growing in a hurry. We have found 17 acres within a more rural area to build a house for ALL of us to live within. BUT selling our home will require that we (me, my husband and our son) live with his mother within her 900 square foot home until we can finalize the land purchase and build our dream home. I am highly cautious to live surrounded by such cramped space for so long. Selling our home is going to require lots of manual labor and money which we wont enjoy a lot of until we trade. My question is should I grin and suffer it or maybe try to build on our current property even though we do not approaching the location anymore?

Where can I find information on buying a home from ancestral in need an agent within CA?

Answers:   i would NOT move in next to his mother at any costs!
