So i rented my apartment to a man that works at the hotel, his rent is due on the 1st of the month?

today is the 18th and I dont get his money as nonetheless, here goes-I called him on Friday and he told me that his father have died and he was so busy so he will compensate the money on Monday, when i checked the account the money is not within, anyways I tried to call him yesterday and I sent him a manual and he did not reply. Not that I am not sorry something like his father's death, but dont you consider he should call me and influence something? He just rented the place since June 23rd and I told him to lift the rest of that month free and he should start paying as of July 1st, all he rewarded was the deposit. What do you deduce?
