the cheque is for July and last months rent (550 respectively so the cheque is for 1100)

can I write on the cheque:

Rent: July 2008 & last month deposit

can I write that on the cheque (like on the bottom) . I'll photocopy it previously I give it to the super so I hold a copy. should I ask for a receipt also?
