What comes first a home inspection or a home appraisal when buying a home??

I am buying a house and my mortgage broker told me that he ordered an appraisal on the property before i get my inspection(that turned out to show water damage).Is this right?It lately seems to me the you would want to find out if the property is ok until that time ordering an appraisal.Oh and yes i get a copy of the appraisal if you are wondering.

Answers:   I always recommend doing the home inspection first. It doesn't issue about the appraisal if the home inspection comes fund revealing lots of problems and you don't want to move forward.
