Small Business Questions and Answers

Im 18 and i live in the uk. Can i legally start up a business? like a shop perhaps?

Answers: If you have the capital to start your shop and collateral to get a loan you could do it. However, at 18 it might be difficult. It takes a lot of money to open a shop and not sure how many banks would be willing to risk lending to an 18 year old. I do admire your ambition though. Go talk to a bank manager and find out what is involved and if you qualify for some type of small business loan.

Administrative Position Advice... PLEASE!?

Hello All,

I have be work as an administrative assistant for a company that has almost 30 employees for more than 2 years presently. During this time, I've had a couple of meeting with my supervisor in connection with getting more work and moving up with the company because I'm stuck at the reception desk doing mostly receptionist type duties. My supervisor trained me to do some of the billing and I've be working on that for about 5 months. I really enjoy it and my supervisor gave me praise for a assignment well done. BUT, just about 3-4 months ago, they hired another administrative assistant and I feel that he's TAKING adjectives of MY work. Recently, he's been asking me to dispatch him the template for the invoices that I've been processing and where on earth I save the invoices when I'm done processing them, etc.

So, I'm starting to be aware of like a 3rd pedals. He's getting all the work while I'm stuck at the reception desk adjectives day beside nothing to do.

What should I do?

Answers: It sounds to me close to your boss wants you to remain the receptionist and perchance he was only giving you work to do in between hiring a unmarked admin assits. I would suggest that if you would prefer being the admin assist you should speak up. Tell him how strongly you would close to to change positions. Maybe he isn't taking you seriously. Or possibly he thinks that you are such a great receptionist he doesn't want the hassle of trying to find a replacement for you. Either mode it can't hurt to voice your feelings and find out where on earth he stands.
Don't think of it that process. You should think of him as anyone junior to you. Let him take on more of what you already know and you will be free to pursue extra responsibility.

I don't see how he could take your work from you if you don't want him to. You're visibly the senior person, you should assert that seniority. Assign him more of the traditional admin work, similar to answering phones and ordering lunches, and bear the billings for yourself, if he asks you to take some, basically politely say "Oh I've get, thanks though." Do not consent to him muscle in on your realm if you don't want him to.
