At 13 why does the poor child have to worry about earning money other than an allowance? If s/he likes working with animals, volunteer at the local zoo. There are many things to do at the zoo from cleaning cages to handling animals to even educating the public about animals (docent). I volunteered at a zoo from about age 13 or 14 until age 18, and I enjoyed it immensely. It also got me more used to speaking in public and provided me with a confidence in myself that I never knew that I had.
