Should you buy a business if you know zilch in the region of the industry?
I am thinking about buying a hackney carriage business. The cost is lb145,000 including net assets which I would be capable of fund with profits from an antiquated business I had. Profit for owner is approx lb75,000 a year which sounds too angelic to be true and there are 10 human resources so the owner does not have to be a taxicab driver themselves. But I know absolutely nought about the cab driving business or industry. Is it wise to pursue a business if you own no knowledge of that industry?Answers: No don't...but later if you do some research you WILL know something about it!! Think laterally: gossip to the drivers, talk to customers. Get friends to use the firm or do it yourself undercover! Get an accountant to check out the accounts, research if the company have paid its road at companies house on time...hold they got any CCJs? Whats the competition? whats the indisputable reason for the Dutch auction? has anything changed lately that encourage the owner to sell? For instance a investigational bigger cab company have just moved surrounded by to the area? (If profit is lb75000 he could hire a good examiner for lb30,000 pa and still make lb45,000 on top.-so why doesnt he/she)..You could even draw from a job as a hackney cab driver yourself for a few weeks in a rival company, obtain a feel for how point work in your nouns. There are lots of ways to get some setting. This will tell you what you have need of to know. I take it this is a minicab business? Cab drivers love to sit around and dish the dirt -you will get a quality for whats going on if you can get em chatting (not difficult)! Is strange legislation coming in that might affect minicab busnesses? (For instance, a while ago all black cabs have to be modified to permit wheelchair access)...some bright law might cost a business thousands. This is adjectives basic business plan/due diligence stuff...In the back running a cab business is comfortable: people want to be taken places and they pay packet and you arrange pick-up and delivery...within is more to it than that but its not hard to pick up (my dad be a london cabbie and my brother drives a black cab contained by Croydon)
If you don't have any understanding about the industry, it's better to set off it. On paper, every industries promise biddable return, in reality, the result is not as you expected. Trust me.
Do what you know well, next to a bit of luck, you will be success.
Good luck.
I would be outstandingly wary of someone relating me that they show a 52% profit.
I have to assume this is Gross profit.
Show me the expenses, and owners earnings.
How much is insurance? Can't be a pittance.
What is the net?
Who owns the vehicle? If the owner does, how much maintainence?
Need a realistic estimate of how long to restore your health investment.
It always sounds logic to hold a hands on operation near business related to service Industry, I guess it is not that difficult for your to gain knowledge but i surface you must be prepared to drive if need arise to prove to your force that you are ready to obverse it.
If properly managed and button with aid i am sure nothing is difficult and you will succeed. Remember running minicab company is not that easy within London. Find out why the present owner is selling the company when it can produce almost 51.7% return on investment, there must be some entity else which is missing .

When a business builds a good solid reputation next to people...those relatives delight within dealing with that company.
