In case of a product, for which in that is no monopoly of any seller, how is this conception of bearing the loss arising due to undercutting of price for the product to same extent as want ad cost that the seller incurs every thus replacing public notice cost with loss from undercutting prices. The logic is that undercutting of price of the product and retaining it's power as before will distribute immediate results a bit than advertisement whose results may not be that immediate and profitable. Many stores will cut prices to below cost on some items. It's call a loss leader. Usually, they strongly peddle the price. The idea is to bring populace into the store, where they will (hopefully) also buy lots of other un-discounted items.
But if you are thinking of a single item sort of piece, you have to ask what benefit you'll gain. Do folks already know you sell this item? Will word of mouth catch enough latest customers in the door (since you cut out adjectives advertising)? So basically, will the lower price bring contained by enough modern customers to offset the cost of public relations? And last but not most minuscule, of course, will you still trade name a profit on selling at the discounted price?
You have to look at your product, your souk, and see if the balance of the issues works within your favor. It could, but nobody can tell that except you. I recognize that advertising seem like a spend in dribs and drabs, but if nobody comes in the door because they don't know you exist, or what you flog, you're not going to make profusely of money, are you?
I think the most momentous thing is your plan and your decree.
