Am I a contractor or an employee- Photography Industry?
I have be doing freelance photography for a few years now. Last year, I begin working for a photography company who markets their services and afterwards hires photographers like me to do their events (such as weddings, gala events, etc). Last year I worked steadily near them on average 3-4 days per week. They usually call me a week surrounded by advance to explain to me what they have for the coming week, and I'm free to detail them which days I want to work. I provide my own equipment. All the company provides to me is the day of work, location, start time and closing time. I also have to settle up for my own transportation and whatever photography equipment I may use. I turn within my work every week, and they cut me a company check with no deduction. The only concern that I enjoy is that I will need to wage for deductions myself. My cross-examine is if1)it's possible for me to actually be an member of staff, even though I'm treated as an IC?
2)Would I be better off if I be on payroll?
Answers: This is interesting, because clearly the photography company treats its agents as contractors and most likely is not giving anyone a choice of whether they are an hand. Based on many of the elements you mentioned (your equipment, your transportation) they are considering you a contractor. However, they are describing you where to run and when, right down to the start and end hours. They are describing you to take photos of events. (which is a touch different from saying "paint me a tour de force," and letting you go more or less creating it in anything manner you see fit).
If anyone is to win penalized for mis-characterizing the relationship, it will be the company that hires you, not you.
If you are offered the opportunity to shift on payroll instead of being a contractor, look at the total financial bag, including social security, medicare contributions, workers comp contributions, labor & industry (injury on the job) insurance, any insurance they provide, any hoard plan they provide, compared with your costs of providing those things to yourself as an member of staff with the symmetry of the contract rate they are paying. Those are the only things I can presume of that you would compare, to see which financial package is better.
You are in reality a vendor of that company - you might want to set up an LLC so that you can purloin advantage of deduction you might not otherwise get.
You are not an member of staff, so you are liable for both social security payments (7.6% employer, 7.6% employee) federal unemployemnt taxes, et al. That's why you don't catch a W-2, but instead you get a 1099 form.
You would involve to find out what your salary would be, benefits, and transportation / supplies arrangement to see which one is better financially. One correct thing, though, if you're let go you get to collect dismissal!
it sounds like you are a contractor. You should ask in the region of liability coverage and if you are covered for accidents on the charge. Talk to an insurance agent about what coverage you want.
If you were an member of staff they would have to withold rates and social security and reimburse unemployment insurance for you. And foot you for holidays . As a contractor you ned to pay that since you are self employed .
You are working as a subcontracted hand, and will have to remuneration taxes yourself. You will have closely of deductions if you do it correctly. You want a licensed CPA - not someone who has be thru a 2 week course to do taxes at Jackson Hewitt or H & R Block. Go to a CPA who actually go to college, and who specializes in small business hand taxes. Call around and ask what each specialize within. Like docs, they often specialize. Also, ask relatives around you. It took me years to find my accountant, and he gets me spinal column an average of 3 or 4 times what anyone else ever did. I'd change doctors, insurance companies, or conceivably even jobs earlier I'd lose him!

I have need of some information just about ebay?
This is my first time using e-bay. My question concerns how to market an item. If I want to sell something, is nearby a fee from e-bay that I own to pay for within order to put up for sale something? My next give somebody the third degree is about, what if someone does not bid on my item and time expires? what happen?Answers: My first step was to move about to eBay.com and to click on the word “register” at the top of the page where it say “Welcome! Sign in or register.” After padding in my personal information, I needed to choose a user ID and password. The user ID I have chosen was not available, so eBay suggested “jamest4791.” At the time, that be fine with me. I then decided that I should enjoy kept searching for a first name that better described my store like “jimsfootballcards” or “footballcardsales,” but I get used to the one they assigned me. I recommend that you keep trying different user IDs until you find one that best describes your business. You must enjoy an e-mail address to have an eBay description, so if you don’t have one, jump to Gmail.com or Yahoo.com and you can register for a free e-mail account. You must also own a method for paying eBay for your listings. You can use credit cards or checks and they only bill you once per month, but I settled to open an justification at PayPal.com. Registering for a PayPal account be just as simple as registering next to eBay and it allowed me to pay my eBay invoices right out of the profits from my sale as most of my customers paid me through PayPal.
PayPal, a completely owned subsidiary of eBay, is a payment surrounding substance that processes over 40 billion dollars per year in sale. There are multiple benefits to having a PayPal sketch, including faster payments from buyers and a 5 percent greater chance of selling your items and a 6 percent average ticket raise on the average item sold. PayPal allows you to accept credit cards and electronic checks for fees that are no greater than if you have your own merchant account. PayPal also offer security features for buyer and salesperson protection as well as numerous convenient features such as PayPal shipping, which offer tracking information and seamless interaction with eBay’s leading site. Even better, it’s free to transfer money from your PayPal article to your checking account. Many headache and countless hours of extra work were avoided by using this simple recompense and shipping vehicle. The only drawback to PayPal is that it take a day or two to verify a current account. Other than that, it’s a piece of cake. Also, please make a note of that any money that you make on eBay is taxable income. Be sure to consult your levy advisor about your local levy laws.
Once those two small items be taken care of, I be ready to flog. I went to the eBay biggest site where this time I clicked on “Sign in” at the top of the page. After entering my user ID and password, I be sent to the “My eBay” page. This would become the center of my eBay universe. Everything I would ever buy or sell could be found by access this page. I could also leave or look at that all-important feedback through this page. Feedback, I have learned, be the key to adjectives success on eBay. Buyers and seller leave feedback for one another to describe each other how self-righteous they were just about their transactions. This information is made public so that everyone can see everyone else’s feedback. This is the genius of eBay. If every store or restaurant within America had a sign contained by front of it showing every visitor’s true feelings something like making a purchase there, customers would other be treated with the superlative amount of integrity and respect. If potential customers walked contained by with a shirt that advertise that they buy hundreds of items like yours every week and other pay in good time, they would be treated differently as well. The eBay feedback system forces every business owner to be nice to every single customer because inhabitants won’t buy from a member of the eBay community beside a poor feedback rating. I found myself looking at this page five to 10 times every single day.
Creating a Listing
At the top of the page is the “Sell” button. I clicked this button for the first time next to thousands of butterflies dancing contained by my stomach—I was finally primed to sell some football cards. From the extraordinarily beginning, I be impressed with the simplicity of creating my first register. After looking at other football card listings by doing a simple search, I widely read how to title and describe my items. The only place I feel intimidated was where on earth it asked to “Add Pictures.” My wife and I have a digital camera, but surrounded by the past I be never even able to revise how to e-mail a photo of my boys to my sister in California. I took some photos of my football cards next to my camera and placed the digital photo card in a port on the front of my computer. After the computer branded the card, I then clicked “Save to My Computer” and enter a file entitle of “eBay Items” where it placed these photos surrounded by My Pictures. I am told that this is simple to do on any computer regardless of the manufacturer. I instinctively had no problem at adjectives. After clicking “Add Pictures,” a new skylight popped up where I certainly had to click it again. Like seeing a burning bush, my pictures popped up right contained by front of my eyes on my computer. All of them—even the ones of my kids that I tried to send to my sister three years ago! I newly clicked on the first football card and it magically jumped from my computer to my eBay encyclopaedia. I clicked upload on the screen and it jump again and made that second window disappear. “Hallelujah” be the only word that come to mind.
My strongest piece of advice is to vend only items that you own or hold some expertise in. It is style too tempting to step into the latest craze thinking you will take home a quick buck.
In my go before, “I think I can, I expect I can” was soon changing to “I know I can, I know I can” while I sail through describing my item and moved on to pricing it. From research and experience, I learned to set the starting price at the lowest price that I would adopt for the item as that would keep my fact list fees down and generate the maximum interest in my cards. There be also two options to set an instant purchase price and to set a reserve price where I would be capable of set a secret minimum bid earlier I would have to put on the market the item to a potential buyer. I only used these when positively necessary as they generate extramural fees for listing an item. I used eBay’s automatic shipping working out system to determine shipping costs. This gave buyers more option on speed of shipping and purchasing insurance to protect their purchase. “Keep it simple” quickly become my motto.
After clicking “Save and Continue,” I was sent to a page near numerous options for upgrading the address list of my item. I could make my register stand out with borders and colors and a multitude of option, all of which raise the price of my listing. In reality, an eBay listing can run from more or less 50 cents to 80 dollars in ornament to a final sale payment. I recommend that you start with a conservative approach. The expediency pack at 65 cents gives you the maximum shot for your buck and will keep most listings underneath two dollars. It gives you a photo of your item surrounded by search results and add a subtitle line to your index where you can better describe your product. I never created a almanac without this preference. The bottom of this page will show you the price as you add and subtract option. Each option is self-explanatory, so read respectively description carefully. Experiment next to your listings and you will learn which option work best in your industry. In the center of this page, you can see a preview of what your item register will look like surrounded by the search results on eBay. To see your entire index, click on “Preview your listing.” To product any changes, click on “Edit Listing” and you will be sent put a bet on to the first listing page. Never—and I repeat—never click on the spinal column button or backspace button on your computer when you want to make change to your listing. You may be sent support to a previous page where you will be forced to create your almanac all over again. Always use the “Edit Listing” and delete buttons to construct any changes.
When you believe you enjoy finished, click “List Your Item” and your item will be posted for sale. There is an risk to “Save this listing as a template,” and you should other check this box if you believe that you will sell a similar item within the future. My first list took me about 30 minutes and I save the listing as a template. The second one took me around 20 minutes and the third one only 15 because I continued to use duplicate basic template. After give or take a few 10 listings, I was down to five or 10 minutes respectively. I created 25 listings my first day surrounded by about three hours near no help from the outside world. (OK, I don`t know just for a while, but it was from my seven-year-old son.) Experience qualified me that the best time to list items is on a Sunday or Monday evening, possibly because most inhabitants are at home these two nights of the week.
My eBay
It’s very soon time to get familiarized with the “My eBay” page. Again, it is the center of your eBay universe. Every time you call round eBay, click on the “My eBay” icon at the top of the page. You will be required to log surrounded by using your eBay ID and password. This page summarizes all of your eBay diversion including buying and selling reminders, current feedback status, items you are watching, messages or questions from buyers, details information, and—most importantly—the current status of everything you are currently selling. This is located at the bottom of the page just above a detail of items you have already sold. In this slot, you can view the number of individuals watching and bidding on each of the items that you currently own for sale. Watchers are family who are keeping an eye on your items. Ebay sends them reminders when your item is close to ending and your items are also nominated on their own “My eBay” pages. At the bottom of the page, you will see “Sold Items.” These are the items you own sold with the final sale price. Next to each item, you will see a “Send Invoice” button. Click on this button to preview and next send an invoice to respectively of your buyers. If you have sold multiple items to a single buyer, the invoice system will allow you to group the items together and submission shipping discounts to these people. I significantly recommend offering shipping discounts to winners of multiple items. The eBay universe will markedly ask you for it.
Once a buyer pays you through PayPal, the dollar sign next to the sold item will hurricane lantern up and you will see “Print Shipping Label” next to the item as okay as reminders about shipping items at the top of the page. If you click on “Print Shipping Label,” you will be rerouted to PayPal’s shipping center. You should use this system if you’re presently comfortable on your computer as it will allow you to choose the speed of shipping, see the price, get insurance up to $500 on your item, print multiple shipping label at once, and to track all shipments. It offer an item called “delivery confirmation” which give you a postal tracking number. Do not send any bunch without requiring transfer confirmation! It is typically an 18-cent option, but it is the best 18 cents that you can spend as this is your single protection against claims of goods not received. If you resolve to ship through DHL or UPS or just want to jump to the post office, generate certain that you set free the tracking numbers on every item you ship. I suggest you send this number to your buyer without delay so they can watch for the bunch as well. After they receive the item, the buyer should sign out you feedback.
Not all buyers on eBay will leave your job you feedback, but most will since they know how important it is to this bazaar. Next to every single user ID on eBay is that person’s feedback score. You can click on that number to see adjectives of that person’s feedback. Feedback can be positive, negative, or indeterminate. The score itself can capacity from zero to 300,000. The difficult the number, the better the user’s reputation on eBay and the safer you can feel nearly having a transaction next to this person. Beware of buyers or seller with recent distrustful feedback. This often indicates that they are disappearing the eBay community and want to hurt and steal from people on their mode out. If you see people similar to this bidding on your items, you have the remedy of removing their bids and even blocking future bids on adjectives of your goods. If you are concerned going on for fraud, eBay has an incredible customer support troop that will help you next to any questions by e-mail or mobile phone. Leave positive feedback for your customers only after they enjoy done the same for you. Once feedback is not here, it cannot be removed or altered in any path. If you leave positive feedback too precipitate and your customer goes south on you, you will enjoy no recourse or protection. Once both of you have disappeared feedback, your work is done. It may seem similar to a lot, but I assure you that it’s worth the hard work. Selling an item on eBay that would have ordinarily sit on a shelf gathering dust will be one of the most heavy things that you will ever accomplish in your existence.
Not long after selling my 100 items and after learning the ins and outs of eBay, I almost cried when I checked my eBay inbox and saw the words, “You are an eBay power street trader.” Power sellers are the cream of the crop on eBay and they receive this status from their sale volume and positive feedback scores, which must remain above 98 percent. I hold now reach power seller gold ingots status, which places me among the top 1 percent of eBay sellers, and you can do duplicate by following all of the guidance provided in this guide. Becoming a power vendor has multiple benefits, but the biggest one is a significant increase contained by income. Many additional buyers will place bids and spend more money basically because you have one of the best reputations on eBay where on earth reputation is everything, just resembling it is in your community! Good selling!
You hold to pay a list fee, and that's base on your opening price.
You enjoy to pay a selling payment when you sell it - which is base on your selling price.
If you want to have a picture, feature listing, any of those other items, you will clear a premium for each one of those (do the picture one, skip the feature listing, shift for a 7 day fact list, and list it on Sunday afternoon for maximum exposure).
If not a soul buys your item, you can re-list at a discount off of the unproved listing duty.
Watch the shipping fees - weigh your item and let your fact list "calculate" shipping, you might want to add some small amount for finding a box, packing popcorn, shipment, et al) - but too much and not a soul will bid - we're tired of the $2 item with $20 shipping.
Yes within order to flog something you do have to settle.
Its all pro rate, if it sells, you will enjoy to pay according to what your final price be. If it doesn't sell, you settle according to the reserve price.
from what I remember you pay ebay a percentage of your profits every month. And if your item doesn't get rid of, sometimes ebay lets you relist it for free.
