How insulting is it to start your own business?
I know the simple stuff to make it functional and running, but the legalities, taxes, etc. are what I'm hesitant just about dealing with. Well I can tell you my experience by anyone a small business owner. My husband and I own a residential/small commercial electric company. We have 8 human resources and around 20 builders we work for. Here is what I have widely read after three years of the above:
1) Most of our business is word of mouth - we took out advertising and merely had one telephone from it. We bought magnetic signs for the trucks and passed out business cards, and word traveled promptly. If you do good work, word travels quick, if you do crappy work, word travels faster.
2) You will not get rich owning your own business. It is a long process of growing your business and making it flow approaching it should. We are just immediately seeing good profits after three years. We other made money, but just not alot.
3) It is alot of concrete work and dedication. Having employees is stressful because you are responsible for them.
4) Taxes SUCK! Make sure you know adjectives the tax requirements for your type of business. Call the IRS or a CPA and nick notes. Keep out adequate money from each check you receive to cover said taxes.
5) Once you start taking out taxes on your personnel, you can not go fund. If you take out taxes on them, you are responsible for payroll liablilty duty every month and the 941 report every quarter.
6) Don't be scared to ask question if you are unsure of something.
7) Forget vacations, you won't hold time. And if you take a trip you will verbs the entire time about your business. My husband's cell phone never stops ringing.
8) Get a devout program for your business to keep up beside your banking, taxes, payroll...etc. I use Quickbooks Premier. Keep everything up to date.
9) Do not throw away receipts..etc, merely because they are entered contained by the computer. Save the hard copies of everything.
10) Don't tender up - work hard and it will reimburse off!!
I won't tell stories, the taxes (payroll, unemployment, quarterly estimated and final taxes are a headache). So is dealing beside the workman's comp. But it comes with payoffs of owning your business. The pride you touch is undescribeable. When I am in chain at a store and I hear someone say, "Crumley's Electric did a great job" or "Tim Crumley is the best electrician around", I swell up near pride over my husband and our employees. The switch to a great business is having great team. Ours are dependable and honest. My husband and I can take a short trip and depend on them to hold everything running. Of course, his cell phone never quits ringing while we are gone, and we think of the business constantly, but we hold just purchased a 46.5 acre arable farm and built our dream home, it would have never happen without our business.

I'm not sure around taxes and all that, but I come up with an 18 Step act plan that might help you...
(It's for the UK, but you can fit it for the US...)
1. Register your business name next to your local province and open a mound account within the business name
2. Decide on a product that populace just can’t throw out!
3. Prepare a sales communication for your front end product
4. Decide on a support end product
5. Either bring back printing quotes or acquire an A3 printer
6. Build your website! (Remember, never spend too much for web design! You individual need a simple page, but it wants to be professional. Don’t bother with Flash or the approaching!)
7. Spending too much money on web design and graphics (should be no more than 25% of your initial investment!)
8. Apply for credit card facility (I.E. PayPal)
9. Prepare a tabloid ad or contact HiLite for a register of people to bazaar your first campaign to
10. Print your sale letter
11. Book your hoarding or order your marketing document
12. Order or create your stocks of products
13. Run an ad or post your e-mail!
14. Await your first response!
15. Count your money and fine tune your ad/sales copy
16. Mail your back conclude offer 2 weeks subsequently
17. Continue to do 13 & 14
18. Roll out and test other medium, lists, or niche
