They control the rates and your rate is automatically 20% complex now and the advent of internet shipping own buried the independent. They are not done. In cities such as Atlanta and more they are seeking approval to handle US Mail! In the commodity of shipping and mail price matters first.
I altered the focus of my business to more of a print standard. Those customers rely on relationships. You can spend like 10 minutes with a customer and craft $1000 compared with $10 on a shipping item.
Do your homework warily. How close is the nearest UPS store or FedEx/K ?If it's within 3 miles or on a better traffic towpath [they usually are as they have site advisors] later you could be risking a lot. Calculate rent, utility, property expense, taxes and finally profit before you sign on the stripe.
Stay away from US Postal & More (too close to brand name infringement and the USPS have deep pockets)
