The cover page for the business plan a short time ago names the nuts and bolts: the name of the company, the date, and the words Business Plan or Business Summary. Sometimes it will hold the plan number on the footer, if the plan is being used to put on a pedestal equity money. Also, it will sometimes have something resembling "For Internal Management Only" written on the bottom. Usually it just have the name of the company, the date, and Business Plan on it.

A business plan is a great tool for getting financing, but sometimes a poor tool for running a business. Especially, if the plan have little to do with your own goal, priorities, capabilities, and performing.
Sometimes people put a business plan together because they've be told they need one. The research shows that businesses next to plans are more likely to succeed, but the research doesn't ask the interrogate of whether those plans were section of the tactical moves of a successful business working with bank and other lenders, or if they were using the plans the approach the business schools initiate things (planning out three years strategically). My suspicion is a plan is usually a tactical tool, rather than a strategic tool.
If you are starting a business, and you want to build some velocity, the number one resource I recommend is the Art of the Start by Guy Kawasaki. Guy be the marketing person at Apple for more or less 20 years from the beginning and the founder of garage.com. He keep you mean and lean, focused, agile, and near your head on the right piece of the game while you're within the critical moments of your company's inception. He'll recommend that you start with a few rough tools (a Mantra, business model, MAT (Milestones, Assumptions, and Tasks), and a few other things) and leave the business plan until the later possible moment.
The reasoning behind this is most human endeavors involve plentifully of learning, which impose an iterative approach to creation, rather than a top-down command structure. Face it, when you speak, do a hundred folks scurry around to complete everything you articulate? If not, why would you expect that to change because you wrote a business plan? Kawasaki's approach is more valid: you accomplish things through compromise, negotiations, and erudition what's working rather than what be supposed to work.
