We hold about 20 chickens that lay brown eggs .. I am not sure why you want to hatch them, that would be more expensive to purchase the equipment.
Buy year old chicks from a hatchery and permit them grow. Get Pullets and no cocks and you will be all set. If you enjoy cocks, put them in the freezer! Any Cocks (and to be exact NOT meant to be nasty) next to the hens can make your eggs foul (because they are fertile) and people will complain.
Put a sign out if you are surrounded by the country and talk to the local condition food store about selling your eggs. (brown eggs provide well there) I vend them for $1.50 per dozen with lately a sign at the road. We get roughly speaking 1-2 dozen a day. More layer, more eggs. (I dont need to deal in many, so I solitary use the sign)
