1040 Schedule A?

Hi. I'm focusing only on Itemized Deductions and Charities.

Regarding Itemized Deductions, is at hand any tax benefit to me and my wife if we provide money to recognized charities even if the total amount is smaller amount than our Standard Deduction? (Our joint income is $129,000.)

For example, if we make a contribution $4800 to an AIDS/HIV charity, can we claim and receive a deduction from our our taxes for that $4800 or will we hold to forget about it because that claim is smaller quantity than the Standard Deduction? If so, then we'll just be able to claim our Standard Deduction of $10,900 (for 2008), yes?

Is within a way to impart to charities, even if the amount is less than the Standard Deduction, and reduce by that amount from our taxes?

I'm trying to figure out a bearing to reduce our due liability that is above-board to us and giving to charities is acceptable to us.

Thanks.

Answers:   If the total of ALL of your itemized deduction is less than your standard speculation, then no nearby is no tax benefit.

My rates rebate check have not come. It be due by May 9. Who do I beckon?

You can tender enough to charities that take you over the standard deduction (over $10,900), after you could file a Schedule A and grasp credit for the donations and some other misc. items- I take it you don't own a home to enjoy mortgage interest and property tax write offs- those are usually the biggies that purloin people over the standard speculation to get credit for donations, etc. If your itemized deduction including charities are less than the standard estimate, then you don't itemize. That is you will not know how to deduct amount given to charities.

No. In doing the short form and taking the standard deduction you cannot use a charity donation. Have you tried figure out your tax liability using the long form and itemizing?
That should supply you a true picture.
