Does the gov refund their giving go out before or after you file your income tax returns?
Answers: After.
Under the compromise bill passed by the Congress, you would be eligible to receive a rebate of up to $600 if you paid that much in Federal Income Tax. If you only paid $350 in taxes (less than the $600 rebate limit), you only get back $350. If you had earned income of at least $3000, you would get at least the minimum rebate of $300.
While the rebate depends on your 2007 income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the proposed plan, in 2008, taxes would be cut from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers.
It's like a one time tax cut for 2008, but you get the rebate now instead of waiting to file your 2008 taxes. Because this is an advance payment on your 2008 taxes, your refund next year could be more (or less!) depending on your 2008 income.

Definitely after. The speculation around the rebate though is that it was initially going to be for 600 per individual, but now there is talk that amount may be reduced to 500.
As of now, the government has intentions of releasing the refund in May, so don't hold your breath, you've got a while to wait.
I be lately listen to the word and I be wondering that if the Tax Rebate is going to apply solely?

Refund being with held because of child support or Fed/St. taxes owe. I have no debts with any of them. ??
Answers: Your question is not clear. Someone receiving child support can still qualify for the rebate. Owing federal and/or state taxes does not disqualify anyone from qualifying for the rebate. In fact, it probably indicates they are more likely to qualify. Anyone who earned more than $3000 last year and filed a tax return will get $300 back.
This happened to my son last year. They had someone with the same name and state that they got mixed up with him. Call the IRS or go to a tax preparer ( that's who my son when to) You should have gotten a phone # or contact information with your notification. Get a hold of them and find out what they based there information on. Usually with a Social Security number check they can remedy the situation. My son had his check the same week it was corrected.
