Taxes Questions and Answers

Can I claim my sister as a dependent for the EIC?

Answers: First, prove that you supported yourself and cannot be claimed by anyone else (support test worksheet in publication 501). *This* is the pivotal issue. Because if you didn't support yourself, you can be claimed by your mom and under IRS rules, dependents can't claim dependents of their own. I suspect you may have underestimated how much your total support is.

Then prove you meet the qualifying child tests for your sister.
She is under 19 (met)
She lived with you for more than 6 months (met)
She did not support herself (probably met)
That your mother agrees not to claim her (as mom, she wins the tie-breaker if you both claim your sister).

You don't have to show you provided more than half of the support for either your mom or your sister (only that sis didn't support herself).
A sister can be a qualifying child as a dependent and also for EIC. You'd have to be able to show that you had enough income to have provided over half the support for your mom and that your sister didn't provide over half of her own support, to claim them as dependents.

Where is the cheapest place to database taxes?

I know that HR block is very expensive. For a $2000 rebate check they charge $300. They don't other have the greatest associates either. Mostly empire who took a class over the summer.

Answers: I do my own taxes, and just file them with FreeTaxUSA.com, rewarded only 9.95 ( feed is 0.00 state is 9.95 ) and my money is deposited within 1 week. Used them for times past couple years. great service :-)
I do mine on turbo tax online. They way of walking you through everything via a program on the internet. You can ask questions as you dance, it automatically saves your progress, and you can spend as much time on it plugging contained by numbers and deductions as you want. You can even directory for free if you qualify.

Otherwise it costs about 30.00 bucks.

Once you are done they check everything over for you, and best of adjectives, you dont have to verbs about screw up your math.
If you make beneath a certain going on for of money you can e-file for free. Go to the irs web site for a correlation to companies. I did this year, and it was pretty confident, they take you though everything step by step - although they did miss a 300 further child tax credit that I have to go put a bet on and fix.

If your taxes are somewhat difficult, I would go to a CPA locally. I would never use chains similar to HR Block. They are not very experienced and over charge. A local CPA may be a moment or two more expensive, but they can save you money within the long run by picking up on things the big guys don;t bother telling you. Plus, you enjoy the same guy doing your taxes every year.

Childs ssi and taxes?

My son is 6 and draws a ssi disability check for having autism and other issues. My request for information is when I file taxes is at hand some where i am suppose to report this income? I know where on earth to put my unemployment and I know I dont enjoy to report child support. Also could I let his father claim him on h is taxes? We are not divorced or properly seperated but I am too scared to report married filing in concert

Answers: Okay, the money your child receives from ssi is not reported as income!
If his father claims him on his taxes, he can claim cranium of household with a dependent, but you hold to file married file separate with no dependent, and you lose benefits, and you hold to mail your return within!
