Taxes Questions and Answers

Do I enjoy to claim grant and student loans on my income duty treunt?

I was reading up, and I found out I do not claim the loan as income because I enjoy to pay it back(its a Federal Subsidized Loan), permit me know if I'm right. Also, I got a couple grant as well, do I own to include them as income on my tax return or no? If so, does the univeristy enjoy to send you a W-2 form of your grants(what I hear from someone)? Let me know. Thanks. Its Greatly appreciated.

Answers: Loans are not taxable, subsidized or not, a loan is not income. Forgiveness of a loan by the lender can be.

Grants will be reported on a 1099. A good levy program will help you determine if the compromise is taxable - some are and some aren't. Can also read about at www.irs.gov.
You are correct that the loans are not taxable. In most, but not adjectives, cases grants turn up not being taxable.

Scholarships and grant are taxable if not used for qualified instructive expenses. Qualified expenses do not include room, board, and travel. Consequently, if the grants are used for room & board, etc. they are taxable.

Unless the scholarship and grants are specific that they are for room & board (and that would be undercooked, if ever) you are permitted to allocate your financial aid to your best advantage. You can consider your grant to pay tuition, and the loans for room & board. That justifiably avoids taxation.

Those on full scholarship for adjectives college costs often do own some tax issues to look at.

Tax rebate plan, still surrounded by precipitate stages but what year do you chew over it might be base on if it pass?
