Benefit of Traditional IRA within 2007 taxes?

I was preparing my taxes today next to H&R Block Tax Cut software. I have not made a 2007 Traditional IRA contribution this year, but own an employer 401k I've made contributions to. My AGI is $102k this year married filing collectively.

When I ran the duty return including a hypothetical Traditional IRA $4,000 contribution, it only increased my federal return by $200.

Does the amount you benefit really stir down when you hit that income level, or did I or TaxCut lately botch it?

Answers: You were lucky to see $200--the partial assumption is completely phased out at $103,000 if you file MFJ.
I asked a complex power about this "my parents married 50 years" They said DON'T profile jointly. Filing separately will see a bigger return for both of you. Example: if you donate $4000.00 but she individual donates $3000.00 You'll get the bigger return whereas if you file jointly you'd both achieve less than what you put contained by. I'm not married, so that's why I had to ask :D
