Taxes Questions and Answers

Is unemployment insurance considered tax able income even if they took taxes from it?

Answers: Yes.

You add it to your income tax return. You also add the withholding, if any. If you had a lot of other income, the 10% you voluntarily withheld might not be enough to cover the additional tax.
Yes, unemployment is taxable.

And just like a paycheck the withholding is not the tax you pay but an estimate of your future liability.

What a mess we have become, tax upon tax, upon tax.
YES> The money they took is withholding, just like when you work. That's taken in anticipation of taxes you may owe. In other words, you file your tax return, including any wages, W-2, 1099, unemployment, interest, gambling winning. Then on your return you determine how much you owe in taxes, how much more you owe, and/or how much refund you get.

Tax rebate 2008...?

Single mother of one. I worked part of the year final year and was on the dole half of the year. Under the plan, will I seize $600.00 plus $300.00 for having a child. Or will merely couples get the money for the children? Also, I notice that people on welfare will seize $300.00, is this true?

Answers: I think simply people who hold recently rewarded into the tax system are eligible for a rebate check.
It's still adjectives talk, but the Senate is moving swiftly. Details may/will change.

Would you sign a petition to eliminate Income Taxes?

Answers: It wouldn't matter they would raise taxes some where else or simply cut a lot of services they provide for us. (schools, roads, grants, welfare) Which ALL would effect you! Yes even welfare will effect you even if you don't get it!

I wouldn't sign anything.
Shoot yeah, but you know it will NEVER happen.
only in our dreams.
No, we need taxes from somewhere to run the country. However I would sign a petition to make taxes more proportionate since it seems that the rich get tax breaks that the ones that are living from paycheck to paycheck don't get, (no fault of their own, not debts just day to day living expenses)
There are different types of taxes. We all already pay for VAT, Excise Duty, Customs Duty, Sales Tax, Service Tax, Octroi, Corporate Tax, Capital Gains Tax and of course INCOME TAX. Reducing or eliminating one tax will increase burden of other taxes. Government will not pay for services from it's pockets and they will recover their share by any form of tax. Every Government Body collects taxes in different form at local, state and national level. I will not be in favor of filing or signing such petition which will not make any difference to government. Best way of reducing tax is to have Government Surplus If they have funds on hand they will be little bothered to increase the tax if not waiving it off.
With due respect to al lthe people who have replied here, i would like to contribute from what little bit knowledge i have. You can sign the petition to eliminate the taxes but aproving it or not depends.
Secondly, i agree if all of us would think likewise then it will be problem, in that case government would have to think about other forms of taxes that it may imply. Plus it will also affect our nations groth/development rate. Think about a situation where government is not getting any money (cuz all the money it gets, is from the various taxes). how can you expect growth/development in such scene.

But offcourse one person doesn't matter. So my suggestion is if you are really not able to make it to pay your taxes, then go one and sign it off. Otherwise, contribute happily to your nationa's growth.
Cheers!!
No, but I do support a Flat Rate Income Tax of 15% with the only exemption or deduction being the first $12,500 per adult of earnings to be tax free ($25K for married couple). The only tax credit would be $2,000 per child. EIC would be repealed.
